seven stages of emotional healing 🫶

👀 Awareness

🤔 Processing

✌🏻 Release

🫣 Acceptance

🌿 Growth

💞 Integration

🦋 Transformation

👀 realizing, knowing, seeing, acknowledging the problem

🤔 understanding what happened & how you responded to it

✌🏻 letting the past be the past

🫣 “it is what it is”

🌿 learning from whatever it is you need to heal from

💞 allowing it to be a part of your past but not letting it define your future

🦋 this is where your trauma either makes you ✨better✨ or ✨bitter✨

let’s be real, healing is hard and lasts forever. I’ve looked for answers forever but the healing stages that resonate with me the most are the first ones that pop up on a google search. So they must be pretty common — no particular order, but I’d like to think transformation is the last one.

I think I’m at 4/7 with three still to go 🖤

How many stages have y’all went through? Any? All?

anything I’m missing?

Also, please reach out if you need help…you are not alone 🖤

... Read moreBuilding on the amazing overview of emotional healing stages, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what each step has felt like for me. It's true what they say: healing is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes, it feels like walking along a vast, sandy beach, leaving footprints behind, with new waves of emotion constantly rolling in. But just like a clear blue sky eventually appears after a storm, there's always a path towards peace. 1. Awareness (👀 Realizing, Knowing, Seeing, Acknowledging the Problem): This for me was the hardest first step. It wasn't just about intellectually knowing something was wrong, but truly feeling it in my gut. It’s like finally seeing a persistent cloud that’s been shadowing your life. For me, it started with journaling – writing down my thoughts without judgment. It helped me identify patterns and acknowledge the hurt I’d been carrying. It's about being brave enough to look at the wound, even if it stings. 2. Processing (🤔 Understanding What Happened & How You Responded to It): Once aware, the real work begins. Processing isn't just dwelling on the past; it's actively dissecting it. Why did I react that way? What triggers these feelings? This stage often involves talking to a trusted friend, a therapist, or engaging in deep self-reflection. I found that understanding my own coping mechanisms, good or bad, was key. It’s like sorting through tangled fishing nets – you have to patiently untangle each knot to see the whole picture. 3. Release (✌🏻 Letting the Past Be the Past): This stage sounds simple, but it’s incredibly challenging. It's not about forgetting or excusing, but about actively choosing to let go of the emotional grip the past has on you. Forgiveness, both for others and for yourself, plays a huge role here. Sometimes, it’s a ceremonial act – writing down what you need to release and then safely burning it, or even just having a good, cathartic cry. It's allowing that seagull of worry to finally fly free. 4. Acceptance (🫣 “It Is What It Is”): This isn't about giving up or becoming passive. True acceptance, for me, was about acknowledging reality without judgment or resistance. It’s recognizing that some things cannot be changed, and that’s okay. This stage is powerful because it shifts your energy from fighting what was, to focusing on what is and what *can be*. It’s a profound sense of peace that settles in when you stop battling against the tide. 5. Growth (🌿 Learning from Whatever It Is You Need to Heal From): This is where you start to see the silver lining, the lessons learned. What did this experience teach me about myself, my boundaries, my resilience? It’s about cultivating new habits, perspectives, and skills. For instance, if I learned I needed better boundaries, I actively practiced setting them, even when it felt uncomfortable. It’s about turning scars into wisdom. 6. Integration (💞 Allowing It to Be a Part of Your Past but Not Letting It Define Your Future): This stage feels like weaving the threads of your past experiences into the tapestry of your present self. The trauma or pain doesn't disappear, but its meaning changes. It becomes a chapter, not the whole story. You carry the lessons, but not the burden. It's like the footprints on the sand – they show where you've been, but you continue walking forward. 7. Transformation (🦋 This Is Where Your Trauma Either Makes You ✨Better✨ or ✨Bitter✨): The ultimate stage, where you truly embody the healed version of yourself. You've used your experiences as fuel for positive change. This isn't about being perfect, but about developing a deeper sense of empathy, strength, and purpose. It's a profound shift in how you view yourself and the world, emerging more resilient and compassionate. It’s becoming that beautiful butterfly after a long process of metamorphosis. Healing is never truly "over," but understanding these stages has given me a map for my own journey. I'm still walking my path, just like many of you. Remember, every step, no matter how small, is progress. You are absolutely not alone in this.
