My fav spring accessory is probably a trench coat & it’s so easy to layer! But there is def an art to layering girls so today I’m spilling my secrets!! 🤭 Layering is one of the best ways to create a cohesive look and upgrade your style with little to no effort! Every piece in this outfit works together to create and complete the entire look. So here’s how I do it…
❤️tip: layer with different colors & textures
The trench coat is tan and canvas. The cardigan is black and knit. The shirt is white and bodycon. The scarf is red and cotton. All different colors and textures. All work together seamlessly! If I wore a wool black coat or a red cotton jacket instead, it wouldn’t give the same overall vibe as this look does.
❤️tip: outfit is still cute without a layer
The entire point of layering is so add on or take away. You should be able to do this with any layer on the outfit. Layering ADDS to the outfit. That’s why it’s perfect for in between seasons like spring! This doesn’t mean taking a layer away should ruin the look. When I remove the trench coat (see last slide) the outfit still looks cute! But adding the trench coat completes the look! Sometimes the coat can become the outfit (which I do love sometimes!!) but layering can help avoid this. If I take off the cardigan or scarf or both, it would still be a cute outfit just not as complete!
❤️tip: longest layer last
My first layer (shirt) is short and tucked in making it appear even shorter. Next layer (cardigan) is a bit longer. Next layer (coat) is the longest. If the shirt was longer than the cardigan, it wouldn’t give the same vibe.
Overall, I’m obsessed with this look & the way layering helped me style and complete this outfit. It kept me super warm when I needed too!! But when I got hot or came inside, I still looked cute without the trench. At its core, the outfit is just a tshirt and jeans. That’s what I started with, but layering helped me create this cutesy look!! I’m also LOVING a pop of color right now for spring but especially red. ❤️❤️ I just love wearing red hehe.
