Located right here in Orlando, Florida, it's truly a gem. I recently went, and honestly, the 'clear water' everyone talks about? It's even better in person. Stepping into the Wekiwa Spring felt like diving into a giant, natural swimming pool. The water is so incredibly clear, you can see straight to the bottom, watching fish swim by – it's just mesmerizing. It stays a comfortable 72 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, which is absolutely perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot Florida day. I spent ages just floating, soaking in the tranquility and the sheer beauty of the natural environment around me, surrounded by the lush Florida landscape. Beyond swimming, kayaking was another highlight. For a small fee, you can rent kayaks or canoes right there, or bring your own (which is what I did, to save a bit more!). Paddling down the Wekiwa River, surrounded by lush green foliage and hearing nothing but nature, was pure bliss. We spotted turtles sunbathing and various birds along the banks. It’s an easy paddle, suitable even for beginners, and offers a completely different perspective of the clear spring waters as they flow into the river. The trails at Wekiwa Springs State Park are fantastic for a leisurely stroll or a more adventurous hike. I took one of the shorter loops and loved how well-maintained they were. You get to experience Florida's diverse natural habitats, from sand pine scrub to cypress swamps. Remember to wear comfy shoes and bring water, especially if you plan on exploring a bit more extensively. It’s a great way to stretch your legs and see some local wildlife. While I didn't get to try the horseback riding on my last visit, I saw the designated trails and heard great things! It’s such a unique way to explore the park, and definitely on my list for next time. It’s usually offered by a concessionaire, so it’s good to check their website or call ahead for availability and pricing if that’s something you’re keen on. A few tips from my trip: Go early, especially on weekends, as Wekiwa Springs State Park can reach capacity, particularly in summer. The $5 per vehicle entry fee is such a steal for everything you get to enjoy. There are picnic areas with grills, so packing a lunch is a fantastic idea to keep costs down. They also have clean restrooms and changing facilities, which is always a plus. Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, bug spray (it’s Florida!), and maybe even a snorkel or goggles to truly appreciate that incredible clear water. It's not just a place for swimming; it's an experience that connects you with Florida's natural beauty in a really accessible way. Whether you're looking for adventure or just a peaceful day out, WEKIWA SPRINGS in Orlando, Florida delivers. It's truly a must-visit summer spot!
