Identity Renewal
Identity isn’t something you earn. It’s something you receive. Too many of us are trying to become someone God already declared us to be.
The Gospel isn’t about performing for acceptance. It’s about living from the acceptance Christ has already secured.
So today, ask yourself:
“What old habit do I need to strip off, and what truth do I need to put on?”
Transformation doesn’t start with behavior. It starts with identity.
“Put off your old self… and put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Colossians 3:9-10

In my personal journey of identity renewal, I found that acknowledging the lies we often believe is a crucial first step. The image from the article highlights very practical shifts, such as moving from anger to peace or from scarcity to generosity. For example, one lie is that "I have to defend myself," but the truth is "God is my defender; I can rest in Him." This simple yet profound truth helped me overcome defensive reactions and live more peacefully. Another powerful transformation comes from understanding freedom in forgiveness. Rather than holding onto grudges with the mindset "They owe me," embracing that "I have been fully forgiven through Christ" allowed me to release bitterness and build healthier relationships. It’s also important to honor our bodies as temples, shifting from viewing them just as sources of pleasure to honoring them as God's dwelling. Stripping off the old self and putting on the new is not about performance or earning acceptance but living from the secure identity Christ provides. In daily life, this means intentionally replacing old harmful habits with new truths—like choosing encouragement over gossip or replacing the need to escape with reliance on God’s Spirit for empowerment. This process of renewing your mind, as Colossians 3:9-10 describes, is ongoing and requires patience and reliance on God’s guidance. Journaling about the lies you’ve believed and then writing down corresponding truths from Scripture can be a meaningful exercise. Over time, living out these truths reshapes not only behavior but also how you view yourself and your worth. Ultimately, identity renewal is a transformation from the inside out—rooted in who God says you are rather than what you do or what others say. It’s a liberating journey that empowers you to live authentically, with confidence and peace.
