Reading The Bible

I think reading The Bible can be an intimidating thing to start doing as a beginner & THAT’S OK! I grew up a Christian but never really felt dedicated to growing in my faith. In the last few years, I have done just that!

I really want to focus more on The Bible so I can better understand the belief I have started to put so much faith and trust in.

It isn't a religion, it's a relationship. I don't claim to be religious and try to keep my focus on growing my relationship with God. This has helped me remove so much pressure and actually enjoy this process in the most authentic way!!#readingthroughmybible #readthebiblewithme #howtostartreadingthebible #startingthebible #beginnerchristian

... Read moreBuilding a consistent habit of reading the Bible can feel like a huge mountain to climb, especially when you're just starting out or coming back to your faith after a long break. I remember feeling completely overwhelmed, not knowing where to even begin. That's why I wanted to share more about my experience and some practical tips that really helped me, especially focusing on the Gospel of John. The Gospel of John is often recommended for beginners, and for good reason. My experience showed me just how powerful it is because it tells the story of Jesus's life in such an intimate and profound way. Unlike the other Gospels, John focuses more on Jesus's divine nature, His personal conversations, and His deep love for humanity. When I first started reading John, I focused on understanding who Jesus was and what He taught. I found myself drawn to verses like John 3:16 or John 14:6, which clearly articulate the core of Christian belief. Don't feel pressured to understand everything at once; just let the words wash over you. Here’s a simple way I approached reading John: I started by reading one chapter a day, perhaps with a short prayer asking for understanding. I didn't worry about theological debates; my goal was simply to connect with Jesus. I found it helpful to keep a journal or even just a simple notebook beside my open Bible. As I read, if a verse or a passage resonated with me, I’d write it down or make a mental note. This naturally led to 'highlighting' key truths for me, not just with a physical marker, but by truly internalizing them. Once I felt a bit more comfortable with John, I started exploring other books mentioned in my journey. For instance, after understanding Jesus's life in John, I found James incredibly practical for learning how to live out your faith in daily actions. Proverbs became a go-to for wisdom on how to live well, offering tangible guidance for everyday decisions. Ephesians taught me profound truths about how to live a holy life and understand my identity in Christ. And for those times when I needed to process emotions or simply connect with God on a deeper level, the Psalms were a refuge, helping me feel my emotions with God. Each book brought a different dimension to my walk with God, making the Bible less daunting and more of a living, breathing guide. Remember, your journey with the Bible is personal. It's not about speed or checking off boxes, but about building a relationship. Take your time, lean into curiosity, and let the scriptures transform you from the inside out. It's an incredible adventure, and I'm so glad I finally started mine!
