Let’s build some arrangements 🌸
We like to start on the hardiest arrangements that will survive the longest. Florals were processed on a Wednesday and the wedding was on a Sunday.
I was also attending the wedding as a maid of honor so I had obligations the day before but my mom and I made it work. Thank the Lord my mom is flexible and willing to help.
Curly willow was added the day-of to these arrangements going in front of their photo wall.
Our absolutely amazing landlord came by to get a glimpse of all of the beautiful flowers! She is a big blessing and puts up with our crazy selves. Joanne is a very hard worker and is always on the move!
So, you're dreaming of beautiful wedding flowers but also thinking about a personal touch and perhaps saving a little? My journey to creating stunning wedding flower arrangements, even while being a Maid of Honor, proved that it's absolutely possible with a bit of planning and help! If you're inspired to take on your own #weddingflowers, here are some expanded tips from my experience. First, planning is paramount. What kind of arrangements do you envision? Bouquets, centerpieces, boutonnieres, an arch? Start by researching seasonal flowers that fit your color scheme and, crucially, understand their durability. Like we did, always prioritize "hardiest arrangements" first. Flowers like carnations, chrysanthemums, and certain roses hold up incredibly well, making them perfect for pre-assembly. Consider your budget and where you'll source your flowers – local growers, wholesale markets, or even a mix of garden-grown and purchased blooms can work wonderfully. Thinking about the overall aesthetic, like what MSMARYSCREATIVEDESIGN would emphasize, helps ensure all your arrangements tell a cohesive story. Next, let's talk timeline management in detail. My "Wednesday for a Sunday wedding" schedule worked, but here’s how to break it down: Wednesday (Receiving & Processing Day): This is crucial. As soon as your flowers arrive, unbox them, remove any leaves below the waterline, and give the stems a fresh cut. Plunge them into clean water mixed with floral food. Let them hydrate in a cool, dark place for several hours, or even overnight. This step makes a huge difference in their longevity. Thursday/Friday (Initial Arrangement Assembly): Start with your hardiest flowers and the largest arrangements. Centerpieces, larger altar pieces, or even bridesmaid bouquets can begin to take shape. Work in a cool environment to minimize stress on the flowers. Having a flexible helper, like my amazing mom, is invaluable for these bigger tasks! Saturday (Finishing Touches & Delicate Blooms): This is the day to add more delicate flowers, finish bouquets, and create smaller arrangements like boutonnieres and corsages. Double-check all arrangements for freshness and balance. If you're adding elements like curly willow, as we did for the photo wall, pre-cut and prepare them. Sunday (Wedding Day!): The big day! This is usually about transporting the finished arrangements, setting them up at the venue, and making any last-minute adjustments. Ensure you have a plan for keeping them hydrated until they are displayed. Techniques for lasting beauty: Good clippers are your best friend. Always cut stems at an angle under water if possible. Use floral foam or chicken wire strategically in your containers to support stems and create shape. Don't be afraid to step back and look at your arrangement from different angles. Remember, it's about layering and creating visual interest. Lastly, don't underestimate logistics. How will you store the finished arrangements? A cool room, away from direct sunlight, is ideal. For transport, sturdy boxes and blankets can protect your creations. And most importantly, don't be afraid to ask for help! Whether it's a family member or a friend, an extra set of hands can make the process much smoother and more enjoyable. It might feel like a whirlwind, but seeing your personalized floral vision come to life is incredibly rewarding.
