... Read moreReading 62 books in a year, or even powering through 20,909 pages as my 'My Year in Books' summary proudly showed, might sound like a massive undertaking! But honestly, it was one of the most rewarding journeys of my 2023. If you're looking to boost your reading game or simply hunting for your next captivating read, I'm excited to share some of my personal secrets and favorite discoveries from my epic year.
First off, how did I manage to read so much? It wasn't magic, just a few simple habits! Audiobooks became my absolute lifesaver – perfect for commutes, long walks, or even while doing household chores. I always kept a physical book or my e-reader handy for those unexpected pockets of free time, like waiting for appointments or during my lunch break. Joining a fantastic book club (shoutout to my amazing reading friends!) kept me accountable and introduced me to incredible titles I might never have picked up on my own. Plus, setting a clear, achievable goal – like aiming for 30 books in 2024 after starting with 12 on Goodreads – really fuels that reading fire and makes the challenge even more fun!
Now, for the really exciting part: diving into some of the best books that made my 2023 so memorable. When I think of 'must-read titles' from last year, one instantly springs to mind because of all the buzz, and for good reason: 'Fourth Wing' by Rebecca Yarros. If you're into high-stakes fantasy, fierce characters, and a romance that will leave you breathless, this book is an absolute phenomenon. It truly lived up to the hype and was an unputdownable experience that stuck with me long after I finished it!
But my reading adventure didn't stop with dragons! I also completely fell in love with 'Lessons in Chemistry' by Bonnie Garmus. This book was such a delightful surprise, blending sharp wit with a powerful story about a smart, unconventional woman navigating the scientific world in the 1950s. It was inspiring, thought-provoking, and had me rooting for the protagonist every step of the way. Another truly special read was 'The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store' by James McBride. His storytelling is just magical, weaving together a rich tapestry of lives in a small community. It’s a book that’s full of heart, humor, and depth, exploring themes of race, class, and the enduring power of human connection.
Reflecting on my 'My Year in Books' journey, it wasn't just about the sheer number of books, but the incredible variety and quality of stories that enriched my life. Each book was a new adventure, a new perspective, and often, a wonderful conversation starter with my reading community. I'm so grateful for all the recommendations I received and can't wait to see what 2024 brings! What about you? Did you read 'Fourth Wing' or any other unforgettable books in 2023? I’d love to hear your top picks and what’s on your TBR for this year!
