Benefits of Grounding for toddlers w/ASD🍃
My son is high support needs diagnosed level 3 ASD ♾️
I started learning about the benefits of nature & kids when my daughter was born. One of the things that stuck out to me was how beneficial it is to also have them barefoot while outside. I could tell it helped her mood plus made her happier whenever I just let her roam barefoot!
(Her dad was not a fan at first 🤪🤣)
From there I knew I was gonna do the same with my second child.
My son ended up being a very high needs, clingy baby that ended up getting diagnosed with autism at 16 months. I'm still doing research and learning for ways to help him. But one thing that has ALWAYS made a difference was getting him outside, and his feet bare on the ground.
The electrons in the Earth send that energy back up into our bodies when we are barefoot. (on natural Earth, mud, sand, and grass) For these pictures he was on our driveway but for most of the time outside he is in the grass and mud.
👍Pros: better sleep, watch their quality of sleep go up that night (a hard thing to do for kids with ASD)
👍Pros: self regulation, it helps them regulate their bodies
👍Pros: sensory seekers will get amazing sensory input just from this easy action of walking/running barefoot
👍Pros: reduces stress, hello less meltdowns!! this was HUGE for me, the only time he's really upset outside is if we have to go in or I have to re-direct from his eloping
Let me know in the comments if you do this with your kids too! ⤵️

Grounding, also known as earthing, is increasingly recognized for its therapeutic benefits, especially for toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This practice, rooted in various cultures, encourages direct contact with the Earth's natural surfaces—like grass, sand, and mud—allowing for a beneficial exchange of electrons. Research indicates that grounding can help reduce inflammation, enhance sleep quality, and promote overall well-being. Children diagnosed with ASD often face unique challenges such as sleep disturbances and difficulty with sensory regulation. Grounding offers a practical method to help manage these issues. By allowing toddlers to walk barefoot outdoors, parents can witness substantial improvements in their child's mood and behavioral responses. For instance, many parents report a noticeable decrease in meltdowns and anxiety, attributed to the grounding experience. Engaging with nature can foster a sense of calmness and enhance emotional stability. Additionally, grounding can offer sensory seekers crucial sensory input, helping them to feel more connected and regulated in their environments. It's essential for caregivers to incorporate these nature-based therapies into their routines, promoting not only physical activity but also emotional and psychological health. Share your experiences with grounding for your children and see how this simple act can transform your child's outdoor playtime into a therapeutic session.
