Black Maternal Health Week 🫶🏾

The time that is supposed to be the most beautiful, and enduring version of me, was one of the most traumatic times in my life. Having my first child.

Why? Maybe because I was a young Black non married woman..They thought I didn't know anything, it was my first child, what do I know? I'm exaggerating my pain, etc.

No not the case, everything that happened I was right about. My spouse never heard anyone scream the way I did that early morning Tuesday.

Providers do not listen to us, even still in 2024. There was one nurse I had who was amazing and held my hand and TRIED to advocate for me, without her, I wouldn't have made it through.

Why does this happen to us? Black women are at a higher disadvantage than the REST of our racial peers. It's in the studies and facts.

I will always advocate for myself from now on and tell my daughter to do the same.

let's talk about it , share your experience below ⤵️

... Read moreBlack Maternal Health Week seeks to elevate the voices of Black mothers and raise awareness about the disparities they face during childbirth. Recent studies continue to show that Black women are disproportionately affected by maternal health complications, including postpartum preeclampsia and a higher risk of cesarean sections. Many encounter dismissive attitudes from healthcare providers, making advocacy essential. By sharing our experiences, we not only acknowledge the trauma but also empower each other to fight for better care. We must unite to ensure that every Black mother is heard and supported, particularly when facing potential postpartum complications. Engaging in dialogue, whether through social media or community forums, allows for the exchange of knowledge and resources, promoting a healthier and more informed maternal experience. Let's stand together this week and beyond, advocating for the well-being and respect that every mother deserves.

although i'm not a person of color i can relate a lot to what you experienced as a teen mom. nobody listened to me, i was literally manhandled into the pushing position and my birthing experience was completely ruined because people thought they knew more about my body than i did. i hope to have a doula next time
