This weeks dinner plan!

My husband and I started doing weekly meal planner and I love them so thought I’d share. Of course mine are all hand written and I don’t take time to digitize it but for post purposes there you go :)

✨Why use a meal planner?

I hated every night being like “what’s for dinner” and then sometimes not having the ingredients when we finally decide on something. This also helps us use all ingredients throughout multiple meals in the week to avoid food waste! It’s cut down on our grocery bill by $250 a month sometimes and that is a crazy number!

For this week I’m most excited about stuffed pepper soup and date night! Not sure where we are going yet though.

... Read moreYou know that feeling, right? It's 5 PM, everyone's hungry, and you're staring into the fridge wondering what magic you can pull out. That used to be my daily routine, and honestly, it was exhausting! Every night felt like a scramble, and more often than not, we'd end up ordering takeout or making something super basic because we didn't have all the ingredients for what we really wanted. That's why diving into weekly meal planning has been a game-changer for us, and I truly believe it can be for you too. It all started with a simple handwritten list, much like our recent one for May 6-12. The idea was to map out each daily menu, taking the guesswork out of dinner. What I quickly realized was how much stress it relieved. No more last-minute grocery runs for one missing ingredient! But beyond the mental load, the financial impact has been astounding. We're talking about saving upwards of $250 a month on groceries sometimes! Yes, you read that right. By planning ahead, we only buy what we need, and we strategically use ingredients across multiple meals, reducing food waste to almost zero. So, how do we actually do it? It’s simpler than you might think. We start by looking at our week ahead. What are our commitments? Are there any special occasions? For example, this past week included a fun 'Date Night' on Saturday and even a 'Florida road trip' planned for Sunday, so those days needed flexible meal solutions. Then, we brainstorm meal ideas. We try to balance variety with ease. For instance, our daily menu for the week of May 6-12 looked something like this: Monday was a hearty Cheesy Beef Ranch Casserole, Tuesday we enjoyed a comforting Tater Tot Casserole, and Wednesday brought the delicious Stuffed Pepper Soup I was so excited about. Later in the week, we had Simple Beef Stroganoff on Thursday and a fresh Lemon Chicken Pasta for Friday. Having these specific dishes mapped out for each day makes grocery shopping a breeze because I know exactly what I need. The best part? Most of the ingredients were already at home, according to our shopping list! If you're just starting, don't feel overwhelmed. Begin small. Maybe plan just three dinners a week, or focus on theme nights (Meatless Monday, Taco Tuesday). I've found that incorporating leftovers creatively can save even more time. For instance, if you make extra chicken for Monday, it could become part of a salad on Wednesday. Think about components that can be repurposed. The real magic of integrating meal planning into your daily routine is the freedom it creates. Instead of worrying about dinner, you can spend that time doing something you love, knowing a delicious, pre-planned meal is waiting. It’s not just about saving money; it’s about reclaiming your evenings, enjoying healthier home-cooked meals, and feeling more in control of your daily life. Give it a try – you might just find it transforms your kitchen and your budget!
