Starting A New hobby!
So many years ago, I sought out to spend the year finding hobbies by the end of the year I ended up with three new hobbies, which was punch needle, diamond, painting, and embroidery. And I still do these hobbies till this day and of course I have to include the hobby I’ve always had which is reading and cozy gaming.
Lately I’ve come across a lot of videos for looming and people making blankets on specifically and Afghan loom, which is like an extra big loom. It’s up to 60 inches.
I’ve actually did some looming when I was younger, but I’ve completely forgotten about it and I wasn’t really into hobbies when I was like 10 or 11 I just did it as part of the free class that my mom took me at Michael’s. They literally used to offer free craft classes.
This got me thinking do I have too many hobbies as is and do I have room to add another? A lot of times I’ll get really into a hobby spend months doing it and then drop it for a long time and kind of rotate through my hobbies so I finally made a decision. Why not learn one new hobby because you can make great things out of it.
I’m gonna create a looming series because I have a goal to make certain things by a certain time so not only am I gonna have to learn how to do this I’m gonna have to actually have working pieces that I can give as gifts soon more on that to come.
So I’ve spent the past 24 to 48 hours researching very deeply all things looming learning about round looms, rectangle, looms, Afghan, looms, and what I could make with each and kind of where I should start.
The first post in my looming series will be up soon, and it will be about where I’m starting and the challenge that I’m setting for myself

Starting a new hobby can be both exciting and rewarding, especially when it opens the door to creating beautiful, handmade items. Looming, particularly with larger tools like the Afghan loom which can be up to 60 inches wide, offers a fantastic way to make cozy blankets and other textile projects. This craft allows not only for artistic expression but also for practical outcomes, like personalized gifts or home decor. For those who might not be familiar, looming is a form of weaving that uses a loom to interlace yarn, creating fabric or textile pieces. Compared to traditional knitting or crochet, looming can be faster and more accessible for beginners, as many looms have hooks or pegs that help maintain tension and stitch uniformity. Types of looms vary widely—from small round or rectangular looms perfect for hats and scarves to large Afghan looms designed for blankets and throws. The resurgence of looming in crafting communities and social media platforms highlights its appeal as a relaxing yet productive hobby. Many modern crafters appreciate looming for its ability to blend creativity with mindfulness. The repetitive motion can be soothing, helping reduce stress while producing tangible results. To start looming, beginners often benefit from exploring tutorials and experimenting with different yarn types and loom sizes. It's also helpful to set personal challenges or goals—such as making specific items like scarves, hats, or baby blankets by set dates. This goal-oriented approach helps maintain enthusiasm and provides a sense of accomplishment. Just like the author who balances multiple hobbies including punch needle, diamond painting, embroidery, cozy gaming, and reading, looming can be seamlessly integrated into an existing hobbies roster. Rotating between diverse activities keeps the creative spark alive and offers fresh inspiration across crafts. If you're considering adding looming to your list of hobbies, start small with easy projects and gradually take on more complex weaving tasks. Join online communities or local crafting groups to share progress, exchange tips, and stay motivated. The joy of seeing unfinished yarn transform into a finished piece is immensely satisfying and well worth the learning curve. In summary, looming stands out as a versatile and fulfilling hobby that allows crafters to revive a traditional art with modern creativity. Whether for personal relaxation or gift-making, looming nurtures skill-building and artistic expression, making it an excellent addition to anyone's crafting journey.

I actually made my own loom because the ones big enough to make larger blankets are expensive. I have made 2 blankets in the last 3 weeks (the last one only took a day and a half) and now I'm obsessed. But yarn can be so expensive.
