Simple side dishes: Cauliflower

When I was younger my mom used to make this all the time. It’s been YEARS since I have had it and I remember it being so yummy-so I decided to make it!

You steam the cauliflower and when it’s done add butter and mix, once the butter covers most of the cauliflower, add some seasoned breadcrumbs and it’s all done!

It tasted so good though I only had Italian bread crumbs so the flavor was slightly different than what I remember but still yummy!

Not the healthiest but when I was younger it was all about trying to get kids to eat vegetables and it worked! 💁🏻‍♀️

How do you eat cauliflower? As is or casserole?

Beyond steaming and adding butter and breadcrumbs, you can try roasting cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, and herbs for a caramelized, crispy texture that enhances its natural sweetness. For an extra nutrient boost, consider adding a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese or a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the flavors. When preparing cauliflower for kids, simple seasoning often works best to encourage vegetable consumption, just like in this recipe. However, if you want to get creative, cauliflower casseroles and gratins are comforting options that blend cauliflower with cheese, cream, and breadcrumbs to create a richer, heartier dish. In my experience, incorporating cauliflower into meals using different textures and seasonings helps keep it exciting and prevents mealtime boredom. Steam it for a soft, buttery side or roast it for a nutty, slightly sweet flavor. Either way, cauliflower remains a nutritious, low-calorie vegetable that complements most dishes beautifully.
