Granny’s stuffed cabbage

This is such an easy recipe and a favorite in our house. My grandmother gave me this recipe that has been passed down from her mother. It’s honestly so simple but has so much flavor. You definitely want to save this one!

Ingredients:

1 head of lettuce

1 1/2 lbs of 80% lean hamburger meat

1 egg

1 1/2 cup of minute rice uncooked

2 tbs Worcestershire sauce

2 tbs garlic powder

2 tbs onion powder

4 strips of raw bacon

3 big cans of tomato sauce

Directions:

In a big pot boil ur whole head of lettuce until tender. About 15 minutes on medium boil. Drain, cool, and separate the leaves. Take a knife and cut the spine of each individual leaf so it is easier to roll. Save any ripped or broken leaves we will use those also. Set them to the side

Next in a mixing bowl u want to add the RAW hamburger, UNCOOKED minute rice, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and egg. Mix all together

Now u want to take your casserole dish and pour some of the tomato sauce to lightly coat the bottom of the dish. Place the broken cabbage leaves in a layer covering the whole bottom of the dish.

Next we are going to roll the cabbage leaves with the hamburger mixture. Grab 1 leaf at a time and a small amount of the meat, place it into the center of the cabbage leaf. Gently roll the cabbage leaf over half way and then tuck the sides now roll the rest of the leaf wrapping the meat up inside the cabbage roll like a burrito. Place it into the casserole dish. Do this with all the cabbage setting each roll side by side filling up the casserole dish.

Now u want to take your tomato sauce and pour it over top all the cabbage rolls. Add the raw bacon on top across side by side

Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove from oven, take off the foil, and take the bacon off the top. Throw the bacon away if you like it is just used to flavor the sauce. Scoop out a cabbage roll and place into a bowl add a hefty scoop of the tomato sauce over top and ENJOY.
