For me, it was often a mix of not wanting to seem like I was 'showing off' and also feeling like my achievements weren't big enough to warrant a public announcement. It’s easy to fall into the trap of deflecting compliments or downplaying our accomplishments. I’ve caught myself doing it countless times, almost instinctively brushing off praise. It's like we're trained to be humble to a fault, sometimes to the detriment of our own self-worth. When I came across the idea of 'watering your own flowers,' it really resonated with me. It shifted my perspective from external validation – needing likes or comments – to *internal appreciation*. 'Watering your own flowers' truly means taking the time to acknowledge and celebrate your personal victories, big or small, without necessarily needing an audience. It’s about appreciating current wins that might go unnoticed by others, but are incredibly significant to *you*. Maybe you finally finished that tough project at work, or you stuck to your new fitness routine for a month, or even just managed to get through a challenging day. These are all 'flowers' that deserve your attention and care. So, if you’re someone who prefers not to post your achievements, that’s perfectly fine! Your journey of self-appreciation doesn't need a public announcement. Here’s how I’ve started 'watering my own flowers' privately: Keep a 'Win' Journal: I dedicate a small notebook to jot down every single achievement, no matter how minor. Re-reading these entries later is such a powerful boost. Private Celebrations: Instead of a public post, I might treat myself to something small – a favorite coffee, a new book, or just some quiet time. It's a personal reward. Share with Your Inner Circle: Sometimes, I'll share a win with a trusted friend or family member who truly understands and supports me. Their genuine encouragement feels far more meaningful than a hundred likes. Mindful Reflection: I take a few moments to sit with the feeling of accomplishment. What did it take to get here? What did I learn? This internal dialogue helps solidify the achievement. Stop Deflecting: This is a big one! When someone gives me a compliment, I'm actively working on just saying 'thank you' instead of immediately minimizing what I did. It’s a small change but makes a huge difference in how I perceive my own efforts. Remember, the goal isn't to brag, but to cultivate a healthy sense of self-worth. Our achievements are part of our growth, and acknowledging them is a vital part of self-care. Whether you choose to share them with the world or keep them close to your heart, ensure you are always giving your 'flowers' the water they need to bloom.
