My battle with HS (Hidradenitis Suppurativa)
HS Awareness
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (Hai·dra·duh·nai·tuhs. Suh·pyur·uh·tai·vuh) ; also called HS :: a condition that causes small, painful lumps to form under the skin. The lumps usually develop in areas where your skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks and breasts. The lumps heal slowly, recur, and can lead to tunnels under the skin and scarring.
Common myths about HS : it is NOT an STD. It IS NOT contagious and CAN NOT be spread to someone else. IT IS NOT because someone doesn’t shower or is dirty. IT IS NOT because someone has a poor diet or is overweight (although some people have found certain foods to be their trigger, It is not always like that.
There currently isn't a cure but different treatments that work for some but not for all. There are groups where we exchange things that have helped each other like topical salves to Vicks vapor rub. Surgery is also an option but you're left with a literal hole to heal or skin graft. Believe me, you'll try it if you're in enough pain.
I have been dealing with it for much of my life. With research being limited it took years to correctly diagnose me. I feel it has affected my confidence as well as comfort in daily situations. I feel as though I'm always in pain, slightly uncomfortable which affects my quality of life and mood honestly.
It's exciting to see more research and studying going into better understanding of the disease. I'm hoping it leads to more treatments that don't involve surgery.

I am fairly certain that I have this . I haven’t been formally diagnosed mostly because I don’t go to Doctors. But for the past 4 years the struggle has been real . The pain is awful at times.
