Life lessons no one tells you about

#lemon8contest#AskLemon8at 4:40PM on a Wednesday I got a call no parent ever wants to receive. I could barley understand him my world stopped when I heard him crying on the other end of the line, my son called me at 4:38P and and the words that I heard and all I could make out was, “come now, flipped, track me on Life360” and then our call dropped. I couldn’t get him to answer back after it dropped I had no idea if he passed out, if it was trapped in the car, pinned under the car, had a brain bleed and died alone on the side of the road all I knew was I needed to get to him.

The things the world never prepares you for is speeding down a busy road with a car going under the speed limit by 15 miles while your trying to pass them to get to your child, getting to you child in what may have only been 15

Mins but felt like 3 hours. It doesn’t prepare you to run and embrace your child when you see them standing on the side of a road crying…sobbing in pain, fear, and panic. The world doesn’t prepare you for these things when it starts to pour down rain while you file police reports and the aumblance arrive to check on your child. The world doesn’t prepare you for when you get home from the hospital after hearing them say he’s so lucky to be alive and walk away with only a muscle strain, it doesn’t prepare you for laying down that night and your brain replaying what might have been. Today I’m more thankful than I have ever been in my whole life that my son is still with me, I am thanking God my daughter stayed home and didn’t go ride with him because I fear the worse. He is my first born, my best friend, my life and l half of my heart (because his sister holds the other half). Hold your kids tight, send your prayers up, because a simple pot hole and rain blew out his tire, causing him to hydroplane and sent him into a tree and flipped his car not once but twice. I know what the outcome could have been I’ve lost many people to car accidents. Just know these aren’t the things life prepares you for so hold your kids a second longer and always tell them to be safe, make sure they know how loved they are and to always be their first call if something is wrong.

Also if you have Life360 it does not alert you when your child goes from 50 to 0 in a split second that they were in an accident. I’m so glad he wasn’t knocked out unconscious because getting a call from someone else would have made me panic so much more.

... Read moreLife is unpredictable, and emergencies often come without warning, as illustrated by this true story of a parent's ordeal when their child experienced a severe car accident. Such traumatic experiences underscore the importance of preparedness, both emotionally and practically, in responding to emergencies. Effective communication tools, like Life360, can help families stay connected and track loved ones in real-time. However, as noted, Life360 currently does not provide instantaneous alerts for sudden events such as a rapid deceleration during an accident. This gap highlights the need to combine technology with proactive safety education and emergency planning. Parents and guardians should encourage open dialogue about driving safety, the dangers of adverse weather conditions like hydroplaning in rain, and the significant risk potholes pose to vehicle control. Educating young drivers to recognize hazardous road situations and respond calmly can save lives. In addition to technical and safety knowledge, the emotional preparedness of caregivers plays a critical role when facing crises. The distress experienced while trying to reach a child in danger and the relief upon knowing they survived reflect the psychological challenges of parenting. Support systems, including community groups or counseling, can help families cope with trauma. Lastly, this poignant experience reminds us to cherish every moment with loved ones and to communicate love and care continuously. Instilling in children the importance of being their parent’s first call during emergencies fosters trust and security. Together, awareness, technology, education, and emotional preparedness form the cornerstone of protecting our families and navigating life's unexpected challenges safely and resiliently.
