RBF
I promise I’m nicer than I look🫶🏻
Okay, so let's talk RBF – Resting Bitch Face. If you're here, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about, or maybe you've been told you have it yourself! For years, I’ve heard variations of, 'Are you okay? You look mad,' or 'Why are you so serious?' when in reality, I'm just… thinking, or simply existing! It’s wild how often my natural expression gets misinterpreted. I promise, my internal monologue is usually about what I’m having for dinner or admiring a cute dog, not plotting world domination! It's like my default setting is a serious one, even when I'm feeling perfectly content. It’s a funny, yet sometimes frustrating, thing to navigate. You meet new people, and before you even open your mouth, you feel like you've already made an impression that isn't quite 'me.' I've had colleagues later tell me they were intimidated by me at first, only to realize I'm actually pretty approachable and, dare I say, friendly! It's like my face has a mind of its own, projecting an aura of intensity or displeasure that just isn't there. It's often the opposite of how I'm feeling inside, which can be a bit isolating until people get to know the real me. Over time, I've learned to just embrace it. It’s part of who I am, and honestly, it can be a great filter for people! Those who take the time to get to know me will see past the initial 'glare.' But for those moments when I want to consciously appear more open, I’ve picked up a few little tricks. Sometimes, it’s about a subtle upward curl of the lips, even if it feels a bit forced initially. Other times, it’s about consciously relaxing my brow or making more direct eye contact with a gentle expression. It’s not about changing who you are, but about being aware of how you're perceived and having the tools to adjust if you choose to. It also ties into feeling confident in your own skin, no matter your expression or your body type. Just like working towards a #summerbod isn't just about how you look, but how you feel and the confidence you gain, embracing your RBF is about self-acceptance. It’s about knowing your worth isn't tied to constant smiling or always projecting an overtly cheerful demeanor. Our faces shouldn't have to perform for others, and true connection comes from authenticity, not forced cheerfulness. So, if you're an RBF buddy, know you’re not alone! It's a testament to the fact that you have a rich inner world, and your face doesn't always need to broadcast your every emotion. Let's celebrate our genuine selves, whether we're sporting a natural pout or a beaming smile. Your true personality shines through in your actions and words, far more than any resting facial expression ever could. Keep rocking your authentic self, RBF and all! 🫶
