[DIY] Add a cat viewing platform to the existing DIY shelf!

Originally a space to decorate miscellaneous goods, the shelf became a daily place for cats.
Because it is only 10.5 cm deep, I can walk but I can not sit down. It seems to be difficult to make a U-turn when getting off 💦
As I watched it, I wondered if I could do something about it.
DIY using scraps from home!
First of all, I imagined a cloud and made a draft. I cut it with a jigsaw according to the line.
Carefully sand to remove corners and smooth the surface...

After applying old wood wax (walnut), I applied milk paint for wall (organic cotton).
After it dries well, rub it with a file to peel off the paint in places for an antique texture. I matched the atmosphere of the lower storage shelf door.
I wanted to give it a little height like a viewing platform, so I first fixed the scraps (height 2.5 cm) to the shelf board with screws, and put a cloud-shaped board on it and fixed it with screws.
I also used L-shaped metal fittings to increase the strength of the protruding part of the cloud shape.
As soon as it was completed, Yotsuba-chan came to me like, "What is it? 🐈
I immediately sat down and started looking outside as if it had been ✨ ← Happy ☺️

Finally, I am planning to make a catwalk next time in earnest. I want to do it, I want to do it, but it is overflowing, and the plan is not fixed easily 🤭

同じように「棚の上に猫が乗るけど、狭くて落ちそう…」と感じたら、見晴らし台を“後付け”するだけでもかなり安心感が増えました。私が意識したのは、①滑らない・②落ちない・③降りやすい、の3つです。 まずサイズ感。奥行きが足りない棚は、単純に板を前に伸ばすとテコの力でグラつきやすいので、はみ出す量は控えめにして「L字金具で支点を増やす」のが安全でした。雲形（棚雲）みたいに角のない形にすると、猫が方向転換するときに体が引っかかりにくく、見た目も柔らかい印象になります。 固定方法は、棚板に直接ビス留めできるなら一番確実です。ビス穴を増やしたくない場合は、ワイヤーネットを棚に固定して“土台”にする方法も考えられます。100均のワイヤーネット＋結束バンド、もしくはメタルラックなら落下防止用の100均パーツを併用すると、ズレ対策になります。ただ、猫が飛び乗る場所は想像以上に衝撃がかかるので、最終的には金具やネジでの固定をおすすめします。 塗装については、見た目だけでなく手触りも大事でした。やすりは角だけでなく、猫が踏む面をしっかり滑らかにしておくと爪が引っかかりにくいです。速乾ボンドなど接着剤を使う場合も、完全硬化まで時間を取るのが安心（ニオイ残りも減ります）。アンティーク風にしたいときは、塗って→乾かして→軽くやすりで剥がす、の順が失敗しにくかったです。 さらに快適にするなら、上面に薄いコルクマットや滑り止めシートを敷く、または猫用の小さめクッションを置くのも効果的でした。最後に、降りるときの導線も要チェック。見晴らし台の近くに踏み台（小棚やステップ）を増やすと、ジャンプが苦手な子でも使いやすくなります。 「キャットタワーをリメイクしたい」「猫棚DIYを少しずつ増やしたい」という人は、まずは今ある棚を安全に“座れる場所”にするところから始めると、ハードル低めで達成感も大きいです。猫がすぐ座って外を眺めてくれると、本当に作ってよかったと思えました。
