Look at my watermelon from Walmart 🥲
When I cut open this watermelon same day I bought it, it looked like this!!! When I tried to get a refund from Walmart via online it said to return it 😂 like what the hell #walmart I done threw that in the trash but I’m glad I took photos. Me & my son thought this was going to be a good juicy one and nope! Full of old watermelon 😤, have this happen to you and what did you do? #watermelon
Oh, I totally get that feeling of disappointment when you slice into a watermelon only to find it's not what you hoped for! It’s happened to me more times than I care to admit. There's nothing worse than craving that sweet, juicy crunch and getting a sad, mushy mess instead. After seeing pictures of red flesh that's stringy and partially hollowed-out, it makes you wonder what went wrong from the farm to the store shelf. It's a common frustration, and many of us have been there, staring at a cut watermelon that just looks… wrong. You expect vibrant red watermelon flesh close up, but instead, you see pale, pooled liquid, and often those tell-tale signs of poor quality like excessive black and white seeds scattered unevenly, or an overall grainy texture. A truly hollowed out watermelon often indicates it's overripe or has been stored poorly. That stringy watermelon texture, in particular, is a dead giveaway that it's past its prime and won't be a pleasant eating experience. So, how can we avoid this fruit heartbreak? Over the years, I've picked up a few tricks for choosing a good watermelon, whether it's from Walmart or your local farmer's market. First, always go for a watermelon that feels heavy for its size – this usually means it's full of water and will be juicy. Next, look for a large, creamy yellow spot on the underside. This is where the watermelon rested on the ground and ripened in the sun. A white or green spot means it was picked too early. Give it a good thump! A ripe watermelon should sound hollow and deep, not dull or flat. Also, check the stem – a dry stem usually means it's ripe. Stay away from watermelons with soft spots, bruises, or cracks. What if you do end up with a dud, like a mushy or stringy one? Your walmart receipt is your best friend here! Most grocery stores have a return policy for produce. While it might feel awkward to return a hollowed out watermelon that's already in the trash, many stores will offer a refund or exchange if you have proof of purchase and can explain the issue. Taking photos, just like in your experience, is a brilliant idea. Sometimes, contacting customer service online or by phone with your receipt details and photos can save you a trip back to the store, especially for perishable items. It's frustrating when they ask you to physically return it, but persist – sometimes politely explaining the situation helps. And what about pre cut watermelon container grocery store options? While convenient, they can be a gamble. Always check the expiration date, look for vibrant color, and avoid any containers with excess pooled liquid or cloudy appearance, as these are signs of spoilage. For me, nothing beats a whole watermelon, picked carefully, and cut fresh at home. Storing cut watermelon in an airtight container in the fridge keeps it fresh for a few days, but once it's mushy and stringy, it's unfortunately time to say goodbye.

Sorry I can be mean sometimes but I would have carried it back and slung it all over the counter lol 😂
