I’ve been using my steamdeck for a while and i have to admit, i barely touch my switch anymore. The steamdeck just runs so much better and can handle games on much higher settings. The only drawback is sometimes a lot of cozy games i want to play are not optimized for controller support and are therefore awkward to play on the deck. But i just love having my steam library in the palm of my hands! it's a little bigger and heavier but it hasn't bothered me because I usually rest it on a pillow anyways~
I guess we’ll see what happens when the switch 2 comes out. But for me, right now steamdeck is king!
... Read moreOne thing I absolutely adore about my Steam Deck, even though the original article mentioned external customization can be a bit trickier than with the Switch, is how much you can still personalize it! I've seen so many cool custom skins and transparent shells, similar to the purple one in some of the images, that really make it feel unique. It's not just about the games; it's about making your device truly *yours*. For example, I've customized mine with cute thumb grips and a sleek carrying case. It genuinely adds to the gaming experience when your handheld looks as good as it performs. And let's be real, a cute gaming setup just makes everything better!
A common question I often encounter is, 'Can you get Steam on the Switch?' and the short answer is no, not officially. This is actually one of the biggest reasons why I find myself gravitating so heavily toward my Steam Deck now. Imagine having access to your entire PC game library – hundreds, maybe thousands, of games you've collected over the years – all in the palm of your hand! The Steam Deck literally puts that power in your pocket. No more wishing your favorite PC indie game, like 'Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator' which is so much fun, was on Switch, or waiting endlessly for a port. Plus, the legendary Steam sales? Unbeatable. The OCR even highlighted that Steam Deck offers 'more games and better prices,' and it’s undeniably true. I've snagged so many amazing titles for a fraction of their console price, and they run beautifully on the Deck.
Speaking of performance, the screen quality is another huge factor. While my current Steam Deck is fantastic, the buzz around the Steam Deck OLED and the upcoming Switch 2's screen has me constantly thinking about display technology. The Steam Deck OLED really stepped up the visual game with its vibrant colors and deep blacks, making graphically intensive games like 'Horizon Zero Dawn' look absolutely stunning. Even the original Steam Deck's LCD screen offers a fantastic viewing experience for most games. When you compare it to the Switch's screen, especially the original LCD model, the difference in clarity and visual fidelity is often quite noticeable. The Steam Deck truly feels like a 'handheld gaming PC with better performance,' as the OCR mentioned. It's not just about resolution, but also about refresh rates and overall visual crispness that make a huge difference in immersive gaming sessions.
Beyond the technical specs, what truly makes the Steam Deck king for me right now (as the original article states!) is its sheer versatility. It’s essentially a Linux PC in disguise, which means you can do so much more than just play games. Modding your favorite titles, installing emulators for classic games, or even using it as a portable desktop – the possibilities are vast. The OCR mentioned the 'customizable user interface and the ability to mod and install software due to its Linux PC nature,' and that's a game-changer for anyone who loves to tinker and experiment. While the Switch is amazing for its exclusive titles and its simple, plug-and-play charm, the Steam Deck offers a deeper, more personal, and often more powerful gaming journey. For a dedicated PC gamer, it was an easy choice, and a 'superior' one for the reasons highlighted!
I have the steam deck oled and it is definitely KING. I got my husband the switch and you’re right. There aren’t many skins and covers for the SD. Especially ones made in girly print in variety. At the moment I keep mine in the case it came with. Which is fine for now, but I am on the hunt❤️ for
