How do you handle long-time friends that are fadin

Does anyone find it really hard when friendships fade and eventually drop off? I moved interstate a few years ago and tried to keep in contact with people but progressively the relationships are just fading away as we have less to talk about. And the hardest part is that with social media it's tangible. People progressively engage less and less with things you post and eventually its like having someone you don't know in your feed. I've tried cutting out social media but it's a catch-22 - the less I use it the less connected I feel with the outer circle of people that I don't see in person anymore. I'm not even sure why I care.

... Read moreFriendships can often be challenging, especially when they fade due to distance and time apart. If you’re grappling with fading friendships, you’re not alone. Many people experience a disconnect after moving away or changing life circumstances. Notably, social media complicates this issue further; it can feel overwhelming when your once-close friends engage less with your posts, leading to feelings of isolation. It's important to identify the signs of a fading friendship. If conversations become rare and interactions feel forced, you may need to evaluate the depth of your connection. One strategy is to initiate more meaningful interactions. Instead of relying solely on social media, consider reaching out for video calls or planning occasional visits to bridge the gap. Reassessing your priorities can also help. Focus on nurturing relationships that bring joy and support, even if they’re fewer in number. Engaging in shared activities or interests can reignite connections. Additionally, let friends know how much they mean to you. Expressing appreciation fosters goodwill and often encourages reciprocation. Lastly, remain open to new friendships. While it's tough to see old ones fade, new connections can often emerge. Embrace new opportunities to meet people through hobbies, work, or community events. Each friendship, new or old, offers unique experiences and learning opportunities that enrich your life. In summary, while navigating fading friendships can be painful, it’s also an opportunity for reflection and growth. Prioritize quality over quantity, maintain open communication, and be open to the new relationships life brings your way.

I’m 68 and never had a lot of close friends especially female growing up. I had 5 best friends from teenagers and now I only have one left…my phone barely rings but I keep myself busy by starting my own Community Center and I meet new people everyday😍

she cut me off after a small disagreement. I then realized just how much our friendship was worth to her. she still tries to talk to me now, but I just keep it short and casual. the end of a friendship can be hard, but I'm just glad it happened now, not later in life since.
