Finally got my RGP lenses after months of struggle

I’m a 400-degree short-sighted gal who’s hated glasses since high school (they wreck my makeup). Tried regular contacts, but my eyes got so dry and laser surgery is too scared! So I set my sights on ortho-k, thinking it’d be perfect for me.

So I called every local optometrist, most didn’t do hard lenses, or the wait was 3+ months. One doc straight-up said, “Go to the city for this.” City clinics were a mess, sales reps promised ortho-k, but docs said my corneas needed a specific brand with a fancy new design. Budget blew up, so my doc suggested starting with RGP instead.

Took 3-4 months of cold calls, drive-bys, and a random clinic handing me a flyer for a specialty ortho-k place. They ran tests and said, “Ortho-k’s gonna be a project, RGP’s a better first hard lens step.

Inserting/removing is shockingly easy (way simpler than soft contacts!). It felt like my eyes were glued open at first, but closing them helped. Doc said start with 2 hours, add an hour daily. “The gritty feeling fades in a week or two,” he promised.

Anyone else navigated hard lenses in a small town? Did RGP feel weird at first for you? How long did it take to adjust? Tell me I’m not alone.
