Which Credit Cards to Use for Medical Bills 🏥

Hope you never have to use this, but save it for when you do. (Touch wood)

Because the last thing you want in a medical emergency is to be figuring out which card to use at the counter.

This is a shortlist from my own stash, based on the credit card strategy I shared earlier. If you follow that, you’ll probably have some of these in your wallet already.

Stay safe!

... Read moreWhen managing medical expenses, choosing the right credit card can make a significant difference in both convenience and rewards earned. From my experience, it's important to understand the payment channels and MCC codes recognized by banks to ensure your spending qualifies for the advertised rewards. For instance, paying via healthcare apps like HealthHub or Health Buddy can change the MCC code to one recognized by certain cards such as DBS Woman’s World Card or Citi Rewards, allowing you to earn up to 4 miles per dollar or equivalent cashback. For public hospital bills and polyclinics, cards like DBS Woman’s World Card and Citi Rewards offer capped but rewarding earn rates. For private healthcare expenses, AMEX True Cashback and AMEX Ascend provide uncapped cashback or miles, which is especially useful when medical fees are higher. Additionally, digital payment options such as PayWave on UOB Preferred Platinum Visa via Apple Pay or Google Pay allow efficient and reward-optimized payments. One tip I’ve found helpful is linking your payment to services like HeyMax Finance for cards like Chocolate Debit Card, which functions as a prepaid card and can help you better manage and track medical expenses while earning between 0.4 and 2 miles per dollar depending on the limit. Remember to stay updated on changes like DBS Woman’s World Card’s monthly cap effective August 2025 or Citi Rewards adjustments, as these affect your reward strategy. Ultimately, using a tailored approach based on where and how you pay your medical bills can help you save more and make the process less stressful during urgent times.
