Omg am I a plant mom now???
No seriously I moved to my lovely new apartment with my wife recently and decided, I’d ld like to finally take care of some plants! (Baby steps tho!) I saw this Monstera Adansonii at this vending market at Budd dairy food hall Columbus Ohio. The lady that helped me was so knowledgeable and made me feel good about buying the plant. I maybe paid $7-$12 bucks for it. I named her Chiyoko aka Chi-Chi aka koko. I’ve had her for exactly 3 weeks now. I repotted her and I’m hoping she got a tad bigger from the pix. I did buy some potting soil at Walmart for her. Any advice caring for plants? I fully intend to add more to my collection but I really want to focus on this one for a while.

Taking care of houseplants can be incredibly rewarding, especially for first-time plant parents. Monstera Adansonii, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, is popular due to its unique leaf pattern and forgiving nature. When adopting your first plant, consider the right environment it needs, including light conditions and humidity preferences. The Monstera thrives in bright, indirect light, and it's essential to rotate your plant occasionally to encourage even growth. Watering is another crucial element of plant care; you’ll want to let the top inch of soil dry out between waterings to avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Regularly check the leaves for any signs of pests and keep its leaves clean for optimal photosynthesis. Fertilizing during the growing season can also help promote growth. As you grow more confident in your plant care skills, you may want to expand your collection with other varieties. Exploring local markets or plant shops can provide you with the opportunity to discover new types. Engage with plant communities online to share tips, experiences, and get advice when needed. Remember, patience is key—plants often take time to adjust to their new homes. Embrace the journey of plant parenthood, and enjoy the serenity and beauty that plants bring into your living space!
