Well Butter my Biscuit
I made my own butter!
Making homemade butter is a rewarding and delicious process that anyone can tackle in their kitchen. With just heavy whipping cream and a bit of patience, you can create a product that far surpasses store-bought options in taste and quality. The key ingredient, heavy whipping cream, typically contains at least 36% milk fat, which is ideal for butter production. Begin by pouring the heavy cream into a mixing bowl or stand mixer, and beat it at a medium speed. As you mix, the cream will go through stages: first, it will whip into soft peaks, then into stiff peaks as more air is incorporated. After around 5-10 minutes of mixing, you'll start noticing the butter separating from the buttermilk. It's an incredible transformation to witness! Simply continue mixing until you see solidified butter forming. To enhance flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt or other seasonings to your butter. You can even experiment with herbs or spices for a unique twist. Once you've formed the butter, strain the buttermilk and save it for baking or cooking. Homemade butter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks—though it’s so good it might not last that long! Enjoy your fresh, creamy homemade creation spread on toast, incorporated into baking, or simply as a rich addition to any meal.
