Samhain Quick Facts

It is Samhain, the sun has descended into the realm of the underworld, and the spirits are out to play...

🎃Samhain is a Celtic tradition celebrated from October 31st to November 1st. There are 3 major harvest festivals, and Samhain is the last harvest festival of the year.

🎃This is a time where the view between the spiritual world and the physical world is thin. This is a time to honor the dead, connect with spirits, and reflect on death and rebirth. This is often done by lighting bonfires, holding feasts, and creating ancestor altars. Costumes are worn during this time to protect oneself from spirits.

🎃Deities celebrated at this time are Morrigan, Manannán mac Lir, Hecate, Persephone, Hades, Osiris, Hel, Cerriwden, and Anubis.

🎃Colors associated with Samhain are black, orange, purple, brown, red, gold, and silver, each representing different aspects of the festival like wisdom, the earth, blood, and the afterlife.

🎃Common herbs and plants are pumpkins, mugwort, rosemary, sage, wormwood, mandrake, chrysanthemum, hawthorn, rowan, cinnamon, acorns, oak leaves, and sycamore. Apples, pumpkin, barmbrack, cider, cranberry, and hazelnut are often ate and drank.

🎃Crystals associated are onyx, hag stones, obsidian, carnelian, and smokey quartz. These are all crystals that offer protection from spirits.

🎃 Common animals are wolves, crows, ravens, bats, spiders, cats, and frogs
