hot take: renting > owning right now

i think we all have seen how crazy the housing market is and the price of houses (in nice neighborhoods) is so high!! it’s just not financially reasonable at this time for us. 😬

although we would LOVE to buy a house and plan to eventually, right now, renting at our apartment building is for our better. we don’t have to worry about all the closing costs and repairs that come with being new homeowners or having to worry about plumbing going bad or needing to get a new HVAC system 😭

at our apartment if something goes wrong, our maintenence team comes within a few hours or the next day, to repair any issue! it’s really convenient, especially when money is tight! 😅

also, the nice neighborhoods tend to not have houses for sale as often, as it’s mostly families or people who are settled down and don’t have plans to move often.

so while we are still on the hunt for a house, at this point and in this economy, renting is better for us than owning a house! 🏠

For starters, maintenance responsibilities often fall on landlords, meaning tenants can quickly address issues such as plumbing leaks or HVAC failures without worrying about costly repairs. This can be a major relief during financially tight times. Additionally, the challenge of finding a suitable property in a desirable neighborhood has grown; many areas that were once affordable are now priced out of reach for first-time homebuyers. Renting offers accessibility in these sought-after locations, sometimes with amenities that buyers may struggle to secure. Furthermore, many apartments come with security features and community services that enhance tenant safety and peace of mind. While the desire to own a home is a common goal, especially among millennials, the current market conditions make renting a pragmatic choice. It allows individuals and families to remain agile, adapt to changing financial circumstances, and focus on saving for a more stable future in the housing market. Therefore, many find that renting aligns better with their current lifestyle and financial situation.

Living as a renter gave me flexibility, yet the feeling of not having any control or equity over the space became frustrating after a while.
