first apartment: buy vs skip 💰

when i moved into my apartment, i wanted to be an organized queen 💅🏼 i wanted to have a designated spot for everything and for it all to be super cute and convenient!

i looked for storage solutions for nearly everything and ended up finding these two that i thought would be perfect!

well, i quickly learned that not every storage item is made the same 😅 my coffee organizer i got has been one of my favorite purchases i’ve ever made! it has made my life significantly easier by helping keep my coffee items organized!

however, the foil and plastic dispensar actually made my life a lot harder 😂 i hate taking plastic wrap out of this dispenser because the plastic always falls back in, the blade gets jammed, and it doesn’t even fit in my drawers 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s honestly better to just leave them in the box they come in lol

have you ever bought something you regret?

... Read moreMoving into your first apartment is such an exciting time, but if you're anything like me, you might feel a little overwhelmed by all the 'must-buy' lists out there! After settling into my own place, I quickly realized that while some items are absolute lifesavers, others can just end up cluttering your space and draining your wallet. My biggest takeaway? Focus on functionality and what you'll actually use every day. Beyond specific organizers, let's talk about the broader categories. For the kitchen, don't feel pressured to buy a fancy 10-piece cookware set right away. Start with a good quality frying pan, a saucepan, and a baking sheet. Trust me, you can cook a surprising variety of meals with just those! A basic set of plates, bowls, and cutlery is essential, of course, but you don't need enough for a dinner party of twelve. I found that having just enough for myself and perhaps one or two guests was perfect for the first few months. One thing I'd definitely say to BUY! is a sturdy cutting board and a sharp chef's knife – they make cooking so much more enjoyable and safer. When it comes to the bathroom, towels are a given, but think about a shower caddy if you don't have built-in shelving, and a good set of cleaning supplies. You'll thank yourself later when you're not scrambling to find glass cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner. Speaking of cleaning, a compact vacuum or a broom and dustpan are absolute non-negotiables. Again, you don't need the most expensive model, but something functional will keep your space feeling fresh. Furniture can be a huge expense, so prioritize. A comfortable bed and a place to sit are foundational. For my first apartment, I opted for a small, versatile dining table that could double as a workspace. Instead of buying a huge bookshelf, I started with a few floating shelves – they save floor space and look really modern. Remember the principle of "DON'T WASTE YOUR $$" on items you might upgrade later or realize you don't truly need. For example, a full entertainment center might seem cool, but a simple TV stand or wall mount might be more practical for a smaller space. Finally, don't forget the small but mighty tools! A basic toolkit with a hammer, screwdriver set, and pliers will come in handy more often than you think for putting together furniture or hanging decor. And lighting! Lamps can completely transform the vibe of a room. I realized pretty quickly that overhead lighting isn't always enough to make a place feel cozy. My advice? Start with the absolute essentials, live in your space for a bit, and then gradually add items as you discover what you truly need and what fits your lifestyle. This approach helps you avoid those "SKIP" purchases that just sit unused. It's all about creating a functional, comfortable home that reflects *you*, without breaking the bank or overwhelming your new space with clutter!
