Embracing God’s Plan: Finding Peace and Purpose

Have you ever asked yourself why my life is the way it is? Why did I go through what I went through? But I did everything the “right” way; why aren’t things working out? Am I being punished?

I sure have many times. So many times, I have tried to figure out why my life is the way it is. I’ve traced the steps to get where I am and tried to imagine what would have happened if I had taken another route. I am known to be a bit of a perfectionist. I like to control everything I can, which is impossible. Have any of you ever played The Sims? I have spent many hours playing that game, and even when I tried to plan my Sims day, I couldn’t execute everything perfectly. So if I can’t control every aspect of my Sims life perfectly, how can I control my own? I can’t.

So why are things the way they are? The answer i have come up with is that God has planned it. I may never understand, but this fact is true. God has allowed me to walk through my life path so that He can be glorified, even if I don’t understand. Looking back at everything that has happened or is currently happening to me, I see God’s sovereignty.

I may not be where I want to be, but I am where I am meant to be. If I had it my way, I’d have a child or two running around. I wouldn’t be working a full-time job. I’d own a home with a yard for my kids to run. I have none of these things, and I am ok; why? Because I can see how the lack of these things opens me up to other opportunities I wouldn’t have. I do not intend to bash anyone who has these things, I want them, but because I don’t have them, I can see the blessing and the freedom God has provided me.

I can participate more in church activities and serve in many ways. I have the time available to learn new skills. I may not be able to up and go wherever I want because I have two dogs, but it is easier to get out of the house than it would be for a parent who needs to pack their child’s bag. Again, those are things I long to have, but in the meantime, while I wait, I will continue to take advantage of what I have and don’t have.

I will continue to help those I can with the free time I am provided. I will emotionally support others who have the same unmet desires as myself. If things had worked out my way, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to relate to other women struggling to have children if I had everything I wanted. Someone once told me I was going through this to help others, and selfishly I replied that that was not what I wanted to do. Now here I am, glad to play out my current role. I will admit that accepting things would not have come without much prayer or surrendering my will to God.

I will not lecture you about accepting God’s will but ask you to seek Him out regarding your circumstances. Pray for peace and understanding; I am sure He will grant it if it is His will. Think about the following verses.

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Tess 5: 18

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

James 1:5

... Read moreIt's so easy to look for comfort and direction when life throws us curveballs, isn't it? That's why I often find myself searching for 'God has a plan quotes' online, hoping for a little nugget of wisdom to cling to. While my original post shares my own journey of *Embracing God's Plan*, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some of those powerful messages that have truly shaped my understanding and given me strength during *Life's Unexpected Journey*. One of my go-to verses, which many people recognize, is from Jeremiah 29:11: “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” This verse has been a lighthouse for me during moments of intense uncertainty. I remember a time when I was really struggling with my career path, feeling completely lost. I had envisioned a specific future for myself, but doors just kept closing. Reciting 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future' really helped me reframe my disappointment. It wasn't about my plan failing, but about trusting that His plan was ultimately better, even if I couldn't see it yet. It gave me the courage to step into an unexpected opportunity that initially felt daunting but proved incredibly rewarding. Another profound insight I often reflect on comes from Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Oh, how often I’ve tried to lean on my own understanding! Like I mentioned in my post, I can be a bit of a perfectionist, trying to control every detail. This verse reminds me to release that grip. When I was waiting for a major life decision, and anxiety was high, I actively practiced 'trusting in the Lord' and not trying to 'lean on my own understanding.' It’s amazing how much peace comes from truly surrendering and acknowledging that He sees the full picture of this journey. And then there’s Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This one can be a tough pill to swallow sometimes, especially when you're in the thick of a painful situation. But looking back at challenging periods – those unmet desires for a family, the career detours – I can honestly say I've seen God work all things for good. It might not be the 'good' I initially wanted or imagined, but it has always led to growth, new opportunities (like being able to serve more in church, as I mentioned in the article), or a deeper relationship with Him. It's truly about *accepting divine will*, even when it feels counterintuitive. So, if you're out there searching for 'God has a plan quotes,' remember they're not just beautiful words; they're anchors for our souls. They invite us to truly surrender, to pray for wisdom like James 1:5 suggests, and to give thanks in all circumstances, as 1 Thessalonians 5:18 teaches. It's a continuous journey of faith, but one where genuine peace and lasting purpose are truly found when we trust the divine architect of our lives.
