Is it POSSIBLE to be UNIQUE
Hear me out:
I feel like slowly over the years we've lost connection with who WE are INDIVIDUALLY because of all the influence from outside forces. I guarantee you that next week there will be a new aesthetic that will last a month and then disappear. The reality with aesthetics is that they're all reused pieces from other aesthetics that we saw months or years ago. Just slap on a different name like 'polly pocket doll core' or 'cupid core'. Both of those names could be used for the 'coquette' aesthetic and the list goes on.
I too have fallen victim to buying into the new trends and putting all of my time into looking like the cool girl on my screen when I should have been experimenting to discover what made me feel most like myself. I'm not going to lie, I still fall into trends and it's something I'm working on. The first step is noticing.
I personally have restricted how often I use social media and thoroughly think over my wants before I act on purchasing them. Both of these tips have helped me and they may help you as well.
Have we been over influenced to the point that having individuality is nearly impossible? How do we (as a society) bring back uniqueness? What makes us fall into trends and how can we get out of this habit?
My point is, at the end of the day, I know we all have our own unique features and traits but it's difficult to truly find our differences when everyone else is influenced by the same thing.

It's so easy to scroll through feeds and think, "Wow, that's what living your best life looks like." But is it really your best life, or someone else's perfectly curated highlight reel? I've noticed that social media and society often classify "living your best life" through a very narrow lens: constant travel, perfectly organized homes, expensive coffee rituals, specific fashion aesthetics, or always being 'on trend.' We're bombarded with images that subtly tell us this is how we should be, making it incredibly hard to just be ourselves. This pressure creates a constant cycle where individuality can feel like it's taking a backseat to what's trending. When I used to try to fit into all the popular 'aesthetics,' I felt drained. It was like I was performing a role instead of genuinely living. It made me wonder, "Why are there so many aesthetics, and why do they change so fast?" It often feels like a consumer-driven cycle, pushing us to buy into the next 'vibe' instead of cultivating our own. So, how do we really "make things our vibe" when there are so many trends constantly popping up? I think it starts with looking inward. What genuinely excites *you*? What makes you feel good when no one else is watching? I started a small journal where I list things I love, just for me. No pictures for Instagram, no trends to follow. Things like reading a physical book, taking a long walk in nature, trying a new recipe because I'm curious, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a water bottle by my side. It’s about building a life that feels authentic to *me*, not what's 'trending' for individuality. For me, reclaiming my unique self involved consciously choosing what content I consume. I actively unfollow accounts that make me feel inadequate and seek out creators who inspire genuine self-expression, not just replication. And honestly, sometimes it’s just stepping away from the screen entirely, picking up a book, and enjoying that quiet, personal space. It truly helps to filter out the noise and connect with what genuinely makes me feel alive and unique, away from the constant pressure to be "trending" in a certain way.

I think people shouldnt buy into all the trends going around unless it’s truly what you like. Either way if you experiment with a fashion trend and it’s not your thing, no harm no foul. We are always growing and changing. We don’t have to stay the same.
