Bomb shelter ventilation shouldn't cost much‼️

Final look of our bomb shelter ventilation covers!

We replaced the original HDB metal ones because they didn't suit our home's design. Don't worry, it's fully legal! (see SCDF reference below).

We outsourced this to an external vendor and saved 60% compared to what our ID quoted us.

The original covers are stored safely in case we ever want to reinstate them.

... Read moreWhen it comes to bomb shelter ventilation covers, many homeowners worry about the cost and the design clashing with their interiors. From my experience, outsourcing the covers to an external vendor can significantly reduce expenses—mine cost 60% less than the quotes from interior designers. Plus, the covers came with the assurance that they meet all legal requirements as per SCDF guidelines, which was a big relief. One tip I'd recommend is to keep the original HDB metal covers safely stored in case you need to revert to them in the future. This way, you maintain flexibility while enhancing your space. Additionally, consider the functionality alongside aesthetics. Proper ventilation is critical in household shelters to ensure air circulation and safety. Some prefer adding a ventilation fan for extra airflow, but well-designed covers can also help maintain adequate ventilation. For those wondering where to buy these covers, local external vendors often offer customizable options at much better prices than official channels. Check online communities or renovation forums for trusted recommendations. Finally, if you're a new homeowner or planning a BTO renovation, be sure to consult official SCDF references on permitted works to avoid costly mistakes. I found that knowing what’s allowed really helps in making the right choices and saving money while ensuring safety.

we spent HOW MUCH on hacking?! 😵
hacking sounds dramatic (and expensive), so we wanted to share the real numbers behind ours, all in the spirit of cost transparency in this industry! slightly under 10% of our total renovation cost went into hacking — but that’s not the full picture, so here’s what to keep in mind 👇 🔨 hackin

BTO Flat Without Optional Component Scheme
This HDB BTO project does not have the Optional Component Scheme (OCS) as there is a shorter waiting time for the flats. So it came with vinyl flooring, kitchen, toilet tiles, toilet bowls, and basins. As we had bad experiences with HDB tiles previously for our first flat, we were set on getting ou
