A business won’t pay enough is not my problem
Once, I tipped everywhere like coffee shops, takeout spots, even when the self checkout screen popped up asking. I did it because I thought that’s just what you’re supposed to do. But lately, it stopped feeling like a way to say “thanks” and started feeling like extortion. Like, why am I on the hook because a business won’t pay its workers a fair wage? That’s not my problem.
Now, I only tip if the service is actually good, if someone’s friendly, goes out of their way, or makes my experience better. I’m not gonna fork over money because a machine stares me down with “15% / 20% / 25%” options like 20% is the minimum.
The system’s broken, plain and simple. Fix that instead of guilting customers into pretending it works. Do you tip because you want to, or because you feel forced?
