My brother’s getting married and I was supposed to be his bridesmaid. But last month, we had a family BBQ at my parents’. Everyone was drinking. My brother and his buddies were talking bachelor parties, one joked about strippers. My husband, trying to join in for once, said something dumb like “well at least you’ll finally see a woman naked.” Obvious joke, even my brother’s fiancée laughed. He never jokes, so I was actually happy he tried.
But my brother blew up. Got in his face yelling “what the fuck did you just say,” my husband said “dude it’s a joke chill,” and my brother shoved him. My dad had to pull them apart. Later, I texted to smooth things, my brother said my husband “disrespected him” and “never liked him anyway.”
Three days ago, his fiancée texted: my husband’s uninvited, but I can still be a bridesmaid. I said no if he can’t come, I can’t either. Now the family’s blowing up my phone saying I’m ruining the wedding. But my husband’s joke was dumb not mean. Would you skip the wedding too?
