Don’t be a COWard~ chase your dreams
Hi! (Yes that’s really me in the cow suit) My name is Austin Holsonback, and for as long as I can remember I’ve loved music. When me and my sister were young, she began taking piano lessons and my parents bought a Yamaha electric 61 key keyboard for her to practice on at home. I would always sneak into her room to play on it and already began writing my own music. Because loving it wasn’t enough, I had to create my own. My grandmother gave me her father’s guitar, an old Yamaha, and that was my first acoustic guitar. I immediately began learning how to play it and started writing my own songs there as well. This love of music and composition obviously translated to something I wanted to pursue career wise, however, telling people that you’re a music major in college doesn’t exactly get the best response. “ you’re wasting your time and money”, “ just have a solid job and let music stay a hobby”, “ It’s so hard to make it in that space, just pick something else”. “You’ll never do anything with it”. I started to believe all of these things I was hearing, and lied to myself for years, trying different majors, a different job, but every second I spent studying for those other classes, all of those long hours at my job, I could feel my mind and however cheesy it may be, my heart, being pulled back to music. It still took a couple of years to heal from lying to myself for so long but I have no shame in saying that I am pursuing film and media composing/ music creation with every ounce of my will and ability. I’m proud to say, that across all platforms I have about 490,000 streams, have landed several starter composing gigs, written more music than I ever have, already delivered an animation and a short film score, and the list could go on. I look forward to the hard work, the effort and creative tasks I am taking on myself to prove to myself, and to my son, that if you work hard enough, you can have a dream, chase it, and achieve that goal.
