How to Design Kid Room 😃 Themes Economically ⬇️
If there is any place in the home that you can go all out with a theme, kid spaces are it!!
But as we all know, kids grow SO QUICKLY, and that theme decor you spent big bucks 💰on just a few years ago can become obsolete (for your child, anyway) in a blink of an eye 😩.
If you have an unlimited decorating budget, then no problem! However, most of us need to be smart with spending on kid spaces 🤔.
Here are my tips for designing a kid room that has maximum theme expression while still being reasonable
with spending 😃- and while easily allowing for theme changes later on:
👍DO- Try to stay neutral/flexible when it comes to big ticket items: wallpaper, art, bedding, flooring and furniture. Then, you can switch out smaller decor items later on.
👍DO- Purchase theme decor with lots of impact (visual appeal), but with low-investment and ease of removal later on. (Think inexpensive art, repurposed lamps, a few throw pillows vs. a whole suite of bedding).
👍DO- Get super creative with theme decor. Any item that’s used for theme decor should really drive home the theme the way you want it to. As long as it’s not an expensive item, don’t be afraid to add-to, embellish, repaint or recover it to match your theme.
👍DO- Spend some time planning out your decor ahead of time. Get color samples and swatches and create mood boards in Canva before shopping.
👎DO NOT- Let big box stores and catalogs get the best of you when it comes to designing a theme room. You do not need to have EVERYTHING in a space representative of your theme.
👎DO NOT- Get everything from one source. Vary your sources for a collected and more-sophisticated end result.
👎DO NOT- Be afraid to use repurposed items. Be it a unique mirror or a wooden bed you paint in a bright color, using thrifted items in a design adds character you can’t buy from a big retailer and it’s economical and good for the earth.
