How Comfortable are You Mixing Patterns?
How do you feel about mixing patterns in a room design? 😊 Here are a few pointers if you like this look!
☑️ Start with a palette of 3-5 colors. You will incorporate different combinations of these colors in different patterns. 🎨 Make sure the “main” color of each pattern differs from the others.
☑️ You should vary the scale of your patterns! For each new pattern, make sure you add one that differs in scale from the others. This is KEY!🔑
☑️ It’s ok to repeat a pattern type (such as florals) 🌸 but you must vary the scale of each. Don’t repeat one pattern type more than 2-3 times in one room. Try to mix up types of patterns: stripes, plaids, abstracts, florals, paisley, etc.
☑️ Get samples of all of your patterns (in their exact scale- if using magazine clippings or computer print-outs) and lay them all out together. Take a day or two to see if you need to add or subtract anything. There should be a visual balance to all the patterns together. 😃
☑️ Give your eyes 👀 a break with a solid: a painted wall, a colorful piece of furniture or solid fabric.
☑️ Consider any art in the room a “pattern”. Lay it out with your samples. 🖼️
