JUST SAY NO

Choosing to avoid generative AI in writing is becoming a strong personal statement for many authors today. From my own experience, refusing to use AI generated content encourages more original storytelling and deeper personal involvement in the creative process. While AI tools like spell check or grammar correction are helpful, they are fundamentally different from generative AI, which can create text and ideas on your behalf. In my writing journey, especially for genres like cozy paranormal mystery, relying on pure human creativity not only preserves the unique voice of the author but also enhances the authenticity readers appreciate. Generative AI might speed up brainstorming and drafting, but it can sometimes dilute the emotional connection between the writer and their work. I've noticed mixed reactions when sharing my stance. Many people suggest AI tools that are 'better' or easier, especially for brainstorming. However, for me, writing without generative AI means embracing imperfection and the organic flow of ideas. It reminds me of the dedication behind each page and the joy of crafting something entirely mine—like my upcoming book releasing on May 19th. This approach doesn't mean rejecting all technological assistance; simple tools for spell check represent minimal AI that supports, rather than replaces, creative decisions. Ultimately, deciding whether to use generative AI depends on one's artistic values. For those who, like me, prioritize authenticity and the human touch, saying no to generative AI is a meaningful choice that defines their writing identity and connects deeply with their readers.
