3 years and several adult romance books later…

In 2022, I published my first YA novel, A Candle’s Magic, and its sequel, Strength Reborn. I started writing these books (which are no longer available, sorryšŸ˜…) in 2018 when I finally decided to get a jumpstart on my professional writing career. Well, guess what? These books flopped HARD, and my writing skills weren’t at the level I thought they would be. But that’s okay. I’ve learned so much since taking a chance and putting my writing out there. One, patience is key. Two, if you want to write a book, then you need to have more than an idea. You must have a true passion for creating the very best story you can. Three, it’s okay to switch genres. Four, not everyone will love or understand your writing. And five, fall foliage makes for some damn cute bookish picsšŸšŸ‚ I’ve been reminiscing about my author journey lately as 2025 winds down. I’ve come a long way and still have a long way to go before I reach all these goals. But I’m so grateful for the lessons, the experience, and the amazing authors and readers I’ve met along the way. Thank you for being part of this journey!!!ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø #authorjourney #indieauthorsoflemon8 #romanceauthors #authorlife #writingjourney

... Read moreEmbarking on a writing career can be both exhilarating and challenging, as demonstrated by this author's experience over three years. Starting with young adult (YA) novels like "A Candle’s Magic" and its sequel, the initial efforts may not always meet success, but such early attempts are crucial steps in honing one’s craft. Many aspiring authors find that their first works may not attract a broad audience or receive commercial acclaim, yet these experiences are invaluable for growth. Patience remains a cornerstone of developing writing skills. Unlike instant gratification often sought in other fields, writing requires consistent effort and a willingness to learn from failures. The author highlights that having more than just an idea is essential—true passion fuels the dedication needed to create compelling stories. This passion manifests in continually refining plotlines, deepening characters, and perfecting prose. An important takeaway is the acceptability of switching genres to find one’s voice and audience. Transitioning from YA to adult romance not only expands the author's versatility but also can rejuvenate creativity. Exposure to different genres invites new storytelling techniques and perspectives, enriching the author’s portfolio. The journey is also marked by the realization that not everyone will appreciate or resonate with every book. Diverse reader preferences mean that rejection or criticism should not deter writers. Instead, embracing feedback constructively helps improve future works. Additionally, the author’s mention of fall foliage as an inspiration for bookish photography underscores the value of creative expression beyond writing. Visual elements can complement literary work and engage readers on different levels. For those inspired to pursue writing, this narrative serves as a reminder that persistence, passion, openness to change, and embracing the learning curve are vital. Connecting with fellow authors and readers also enriches the experience, providing support and motivation throughout the writing journey. Overall, the author’s candid reflections provide a realistic and encouraging perspective for emerging writers navigating the often nonlinear path toward literary success.
