What happens when a wolf rejects their mate?
In the Chronicles of the Forest Wolves, rejecting a mate isn't as simple as walking away.
For a rejection to be complete, both wolves must agree to sever the bond. One wolf can offer the rejection, but the other must accept it. Once that bond is broken, it's permanent. There are no second chances and no taking it back.
The process is painful. Both the wolf and the human side feel it. Many describe it as a physical pain in their chest, as though their heart is literally breaking.
The emotional aftermath depends on why the rejection happened.
Some wolves feel grief.
Some feel guilt.
Some feel relief.
Others feel anger, sadness, or depression.
Not every fated mate bond is healthy.
Freddie rejected his first mate, Audrey, after enduring abuse and infidelity.
Landon rejected Jinx because she was a rogue—the very thing he hated most—even though she was kind and loyal.
Every rejection comes with consequences.
And there is always risk.
If a wolf rejects their mate and that mate dies before accepting the rejection, the wolf who offered it will still feel that death through the bond.
Fated mates may be chosen by the Moon Goddess, but wolves still have free will.
So here's my question for you:
If you discovered your fated mate was cruel, abusive, or completely opposite to your values, would you stay because fate chose them—or would you reject them?
