As an author I’ve been asked before about my writing. Specifically, why I write my characters as they are. My answer, because that’s what they sound like and look like in my head.
They have lives of their own, previously living rent free in my mind. Now, I make their troublesome asses work for me.
They still aren’t earning their keep but they are working on it. I watch them like some kind of stalker and write what I see. At times I even give them a nudge in one direction or another and they do push back.
As my hairdresser can attest, things just pop up and come together for a story at any time. Inspiration from others is a real thing. Sometimes, you’re gonna need this. 😉
At the end of the day, if you have characters you feel need to get out. Do it. Write them down. It doesn’t have to be great. Write it. Read it. Revise it. Make them pay rent!
