Chapter 8: ā€œEā€

When E came around, I wanted to feel alive.

Wanted to feel wanted.

Seen.

Desired.

Dangerous.

And he gave me all of that… and the devil behind it.

He wasn’t no regular hood nigga either.

He was smart — like scary smart.

The type of smart where you know he could’ve been anything in life, but he

chose the streets because that’s the image he wanted.

A genius trapped in a hood costume.

He flirted with me in front of all our mutual friends, waited for the

right moment, pressed the right buttons, and one night… I folded. Our whole situationship was poison before it even became a relationship. I should’ve seen the signs, but I didn’t.Because at that point, he was the only thing making me feel anything

besides numb.

It reminded me of times when I, too, craved to feel truly alive beyond the numbness — to be seen and wanted in a way that stirred every feeling inside. The character E embodies that paradox of brilliance and street-smart toughness, showing how sometimes people wear masks that hide their true potential. From personal experience, those intense relationships that draw us in with passion often come with hidden risks, much like the "poison" described here. I’ve learned that recognizing early warning signs can be difficult when emotions cloud judgment, but embracing vulnerability and accountability, as suggested with hashtags like #embracevulnerability and #accountability, can lead to healing and growth. This chapter offers not only a gripping narrative but also an invitation to reflect on our own relationships and the ways we seek connection. It's a powerful reminder that sometimes what we desire the most can also challenge us profoundly. Sharing stories like this has helped me understand the value of self-awareness and the courage it takes to step away from toxicity to truly heal and thrive.
