This is what being an indie author looks like...
I long for the day I can have a beautiful book room filled with all that inspires me, but until I actually earn a profit off my stories, a folding table desk and table cloth will have to do.
Writing isn't the most glamorous job. It's hard work and often more time-consuming than a 9-5 regular job. Add to the mix being a SAHM of 5 and home management... well, you get the picture. I have no sick days, and I work well into the night to make my dream a reality. I write clean epic fantasy in romance and language with more descriptive violence. My stories are all about growth over time and through hard things, honor in all things, rising up after failure, good vs. evil, and light triumphs over dark. ❤️✨️📖⚔️
I've spent over half my life building this world and the characters in it. Now that I've found my voice, I'm putting these stories out to the world. This year, I've published 2 of my novels. A 3rd is on the way early 2026.
If you can relate, let's be friends.

Being an indie author is often a tough balancing act, especially when you combine it with the demands of being a stay-at-home mom of five. Unlike traditional careers, indie authors typically don’t have glamorous workspaces or regular hours. Instead, they rely on passion, grit, and a supportive environment to turn their dreams of storytelling into reality. The image from the OCR wonderfully captures this reality: 90% of the time, indie authors work in comfort over style, often sacrificing the luxurious for the functional. No glamorous studio, no sick days – just relentless dedication. Often, the only days off are when the author’s support system, such as a spouse, steps in to help with essential self-care like meals. This behind-the-scenes support is crucial to maintaining the author’s stamina and focus in the creative process. The author mentioned writes clean epic fantasy romance with descriptive violence, exploring timeless themes such as good versus evil, growth through adversity, honor, and the triumph of light over dark. These narratives often feature richly crafted worlds and complex characters developed over many years. The author’s commitment to multi-book slow burn storytelling, incorporating quests, prophecy, magic, royalty, and enemies-to-lovers dynamics, resonates deeply with fans who seek immersive, layered fiction. In the multi-layered world of indie publishing, authors not only create stories but also manage their marketing, cover design, distribution, and community engagement through forums like #cleanbooks, #indieauthor, and #fantasybook. Building a reader base often involves connecting authentically on platforms such as Lemon8 and others, sharing not only polished content but the genuine struggles and triumphs of indie life. For aspiring indie authors, this portrayal is an honest glimpse of the love, dedication, and perseverance that shape their journeys. Balancing family responsibilities, writing late into the night, and slowly but surely releasing novels requires more than talent – it requires resilience and a supportive tribe. The vibrant indie author community values these shared experiences, encouraging connection and friendship among those navigating this unique career path. Whether you’re an indie author yourself or a fantasy reader intrigued by the passion behind the stories, acknowledging the realities behind the craft adds richness to every page. Supporting indie authors means honoring the work behind the scenes – the late nights at a folding table desk, the endless editing, and above all, the dream to inspire with stories born from the heart.
