Back in 1964, villagers in the Ban Nong Kai Toasting area, Na Leg District, District Behind Garden, Chumphon Province were in a panic when rumors spread of a giant crocodile going on a rampage in Bang Mud Canal, a deep water canal that connects to several rivers and can go out to sea.

Locals call it a "spotted bastard" because of its unusually shiny black body, no moss like a typical crocodile. Many people who have seen it say that it is enormous, with a head almost a meter long, a body larger than a 200-liter fuel tank, and it is many meters long to look formidable.

The terror of the alkali is not only its size, but also the news that it abuses and eats the villagers who roam the canal, causing many deaths, causing the people of the neighborhood to dare to enter the water, not dare to set sail, and fear every time they pass through the area of the Bang Mud canal.

As the news spread, newspapers across the country continued to present the story of this man-eating crocodile to become a major national news story. A prize of 7,000 baht was set, which was a huge sum of money in that era, resulting in hunters, hunters, and magicians from many areas joining the mission to hunt the alkali.

Its tide of fame also attracted local and international news media to travel to make news and documentaries; some troupes even embarked on a follow-up to the hunting team to bring footage of actual events into circulation.

After a lengthy manhunt, on November 20, 1964, a group of hunters led by Corporal Tong Piman was able to trace the trail of the spotted bastard to a deep underwater landing before wrapping up the terror myth that had engulfed the community for months.

But the story isn't over yet...

When the carcass was dissected to examine the body of this giant crocodile, evidence was found that shocked people of that era when two human skulls were reportedly found inside the stomach, further reinforcing the locals' belief that the spotted could be a real man-eating crocodile who had caused a long-standing panic.

Although more than 60 years have passed, the name of "Bang Chai," or "Bang Mud," is still recounted as one of the most famous and feared man-eating giant crocodile legends in Thai history, becoming a narrative that later generations still remember today.
