I'm being stalked by my own cat

Okay, so my cat isn't actually a secret agent, but sometimes I swear she thinks she is! Like in that photo, perched on the carpeted stairs with her imaginary camera – it's like a scene right out of a spy movie where she's about to say "Hi~" before launching into a chase. I used to wonder, 'Why is she always following me around the house?' Is it just my cat, or do all felines have this 'indoor stalking' habit? They're miniature hunters, and even though our homes are safe, their prey drive is still very much alive. My cat needs to know what I'm doing in every single room. If I open a cupboard, she's there, inspecting my choices. If I sit down, she's usually right next to me, or even on me, making sure I haven't forgotten her existence. I've noticed a few distinct 'stalking' styles. There's the 'shadow' stalk, where they silently follow you from room to room, just out of sight. Then there's the 'watch tower' stalk, like in the picture, where they find a vantage point and just observe your every move. And of course, the 'pre-pounce' stalk, which is usually accompanied by intense focus and twitching tail before they spring into action, perhaps to playfully chase your feet! It's all part of their rich inner world, and honestly, it keeps things interesting. One thing I've learned is that it's often a sign of affection or a desire for attention. If your cat is always playfully following you, it might be their way of saying, 'Hey, let's have some fun!' I've started using this as a signal for interactive playtime. A feather wand or a laser pointer can turn their 'stalking' into a fantastic bonding session and a great way to help them burn off some energy, especially for those indoor-only kitties. It's also a good sign they feel safe and comfortable enough to express their natural behaviors. Sometimes, they're just being observant. My cat often watches me from a distance, like she's plotting her next move – maybe to steal my cozy spot on the couch or demand more treats. I find it so endearing now, that silent companionship. It's their way of being part of your world, even if it looks a bit like surveillance! And honestly, who wouldn't want a tiny, furry bodyguard keeping an eye on things, even if they occasionally look like they've had a few too many imaginary champagne glasses? So, if your cat is your constant indoor shadow, don't worry too much. Mostly, it means they love you, they're engaged with their environment, and they probably just want to play, snuggle, or get a snack.
