TUMMY TIME FAVORITES

For all my mommas out there trying to find some tummy time entertainment!!

These things have all helped so much throughout my daughter’s tummy time journey, and now that she rolls on her own she still loves all of these! They are definitely all long lasting toys that grow with baby.

The contrast books were her favorite thing to start off with because when she was really little it was what she could see the best. When she started being able to grasp at things is when she started getting obsessed with the fish because of the crinkly sounds on the scales, and she continued her love of the contrast books because those were crinkly to :). As for the little aquarium, I SO wish I set that up when she was younger (I just forgot to set it up for a while) because I think she would have loved it from a very young age. Now we use it every day and it lets me get some things done on my own which is 🙌🏼

I tried everything, but the real game-changer for us was finding toys that truly captured her attention and made those floor sessions fun. If you're searching for ways to make tummy time more engaging, let me share why the right toys, especially those interactive fish-themed ones, can make all the difference. One of our absolute favorites, and a true lifesaver, was the Melissa & Doug Flip Fish. I remember vividly how its vibrant colors and various textures immediately piqued her curiosity. This isn't just any plush toy; it's designed with so much thought for baby development. The crinkly scales were a huge hit – that sound always managed to get a giggle out of her and encourage her to reach out and explore. It has a little mirror too, which was fantastic for self-discovery as she got a bit older and started recognizing her own reflection during tummy time. Plus, the attached teether was a bonus for those early teething days, providing a safe and stimulating object for her to mouth. For us, having a toy with multiple sensory elements like this was key to extending her engagement on her tummy. It really encourages babies to focus, track with their eyes, and develop those crucial fine motor skills as they try to grasp and manipulate different parts of the fish. Beyond the Flip Fish, I also found that any 'tummy time fish' toy that offered similar sensory experiences was a winner. Whether it was another multi-textured ocean-themed mat with fish characters or a soft book featuring aquatic life, the key was the interactive elements. Look for toys that have high-contrast patterns, different textures to feel, and sounds that respond to your baby's touch. These features are incredibly stimulating for a baby's developing brain and can transform a potentially frustrating tummy time session into an exciting adventure. Another item that surprisingly contributed to our tummy time success, though not directly a 'fish' toy, was creating a soothing environment. The Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother, which we later started using more consistently, actually helped with her ability to relax and focus during various activities, including extended periods on her mat. While it's typically for cribs, I found that playing its gentle melodies and watching the moving lights nearby helped calm her and made the transition to tummy time less jarring. It shows how combining stimulating toys with a calm atmosphere can really make a difference. Ultimately, the goal is to make tummy time an enjoyable experience for your baby, not just a developmental exercise. Investing in high-quality, engaging toys like the Melissa & Doug Flip Fish can truly empower your little one to strengthen those neck and core muscles while having fun. Don't be afraid to experiment with different interactive toys – you'll soon discover what truly captivates your baby and helps them thrive during these important early months.
