need help with making a full body base pt.1
Hey fellow artists! So, you might have seen my initial sketch for my new original character, Luna, a 19-year-old goddess/demon. I'm really excited about bringing her to life, and I wanted to share some of my thought processes and tips for creating a compelling full body base, especially when you're aiming for a specific personality like 'shy & kind' with a hint of 'crazy' potential! When I start a full body base drawing for a girl character, I always begin with simple shapes to map out the general pose and proportions. For a goddess body base, I often think about elegance and a slightly elongated form, even if the character is meant to be powerful. It's not about making her unrealistically thin, but giving a sense of grace. Think about the flow of the spine and the balance of the hips and shoulders. This initial sketch body base is crucial for getting the overall feel right before diving into details. Don't be afraid to use construction lines – they're your best friends! Next up, let's talk about the face and specifically, the eyes. Having a body base with eyes already sketched in helps a lot in grounding the character's expression. For Luna, I experimented with two main eye styles: 'crazy' and 'blank.' The 'crazy' style allowed me to explore her demon side, perhaps when she's feeling more intense, while the 'blank' style can convey that shy, kind, almost dreamy quality. Her dark eyes are a key feature, so making sure they stand out even in different expressions is important. Consider how the eyebrows and eyelids interact with the eyeball to create different emotions. A slight tilt or narrowing can completely change the mood. Adding hair is another game-changer. For Luna, her purple and black hair is a defining feature. When you're working on a body base with hair and eyes, think about how the hair frames the face and flows with the body's movement. Even in a static pose, you can suggest texture and volume. For unique hair colors like purple and black, consider how light would hit it to show off the different tones. It's not just about drawing strands; it's about drawing a mass that has weight and style. Don't forget the smaller details! Luna has freckles, and these tiny marks can add so much character and a touch of realism to your girl body base sketch. They break up the flatness of the skin and can make a character feel more approachable or unique. When drawing them, vary their size and density for a natural look. Even small details contribute to the overall impression of a shy body base or a powerful goddess base. Finally, remember that your full body base is more than just anatomy; it's the foundation for your character's story. How does her posture reflect her 'shy & kind' nature? Or how might a 'crazy base drawing' hint at an inner struggle? Practice sketching different expressions and poses to truly make your characters come alive. Keep experimenting, and don't be afraid to draw two people body base if you're planning interactions! Happy drawing, everyone!

It’s so cute!!❤️😍
