A DAY in the life of a Dental Hygienist

#Lemon8Diary #lemon8diarychallenge @Captain Lemon8 @Lemon8 US

I usually start my day with reviewing all my patient charts for the day

The entire practice meets as well to review the schedule to make sure everyone knows what’s taking place and we are a team

I take X-rays, review health history, educate about oral health, take blood pressure, periodontal gum charting, prophylaxis and many more procedures through out the day.

I document all my charts and review the next day

After helping patients to get health and smile with confidence I go home happy and ready to take care of more smiles

Throughout the day, I manage a variety of tasks that keep the dental practice running smoothly and ensure each patient receives personalized care. Besides taking X-rays and performing prophylaxis, I monitor patients' blood pressure and carefully chart periodontal health to catch any early signs of disease. One aspect I find particularly fulfilling is educating patients on maintaining oral hygiene at home. I always enjoy sharing tips for effective brushing and flossing techniques, as well as explaining how lifestyle factors can impact dental health. It’s empowering for patients to understand how their daily habits affect their smiles. Another important part of my day is teamwork. Alongside dentists and office staff, we review the schedule and patient needs each morning to coordinate treatment plans efficiently. This collaboration helps create a supportive environment not only for patients but for the entire team. Documentation is essential in my role — I carefully update patient charts and plan for future visits to ensure continuity of care. This attention to detail helps maintain high standards and builds trust with patients. Overall, being a dental hygienist means combining clinical skills with communication and compassion. Ending the day knowing I’ve helped patients improve their oral health truly makes the job rewarding and motivates me to continue learning and growing in this field.
