Today was such a fun day. I started off with coffee, of course.
I had a full day of educating patients and making people healthy, which always brings a smile to my face.
I vibes to this really good audiobook that really helps people out our creative get in tune with their creativity and discusses art.
And then I spent some time for myself just trying different makeup out. I have so much fun with that.

It’s amazing how a dental hygienist's day can be so varied and rewarding! Beyond the quick highlights, there's so much more to what we do to help patients achieve healthy smiles. My mornings often kick off with that essential cup of coffee, fueling me for a day packed with patient care. As soon as I step into the clinic, it's about setting up my operatory, ensuring all my dental tools are perfectly sterilized and ready for use – from delicate perio scalers to powerful ultrasonic instruments and specialized polishers, every instrument plays a crucial role in maintaining oral health. The setup is key to performing efficient and effective cleanings. When a patient settles into the comfortable dental chair, my focus shifts entirely to them. After a friendly welcome and reviewing their medical history, it's time for the cleaning. This isn't just a simple brush; it involves carefully scaling away plaque and calculus from every tooth surface, both above and below the gum line. I utilize a variety of dental tools as part of performing cleaning, always mindful of patient comfort and individual needs. After the thorough cleaning, I move on to polishing teeth, which leaves them feeling incredibly smooth and bright. Educating patients is another huge part of my role. I love empowering them with practical tips on brushing techniques, flossing, and understanding the importance of regular check-ups. Sometimes, taking X-rays is also part of the routine, giving us a comprehensive view of their oral health, allowing us to identify issues early. There’s a real satisfaction in seeing a patient leave with a healthier mouth and a brighter smile. What often surprises people is how I find inspiration even in a clinical setting. That's where 'The Creative Act: A Way of Being' by Rick Rubin comes in. Listening to this audiobook during breaks or my commute isn't just a pastime; it's a way to refresh my perspective. While my job might seem purely technical, creativity plays a subtle role. It’s in how I approach a challenging case, how I explain complex concepts to a child, or even how I organize my workflow in the dental chair. Rubin’s insights remind me that creativity isn't just for artists; it's a mindset that helps us find innovative solutions and connect deeply with our work, no matter the field. It helps me stay in tune with the artistry of precision and care, making sure each patient's experience is the best it can be. By the end of a busy day, after performing countless cleanings and guiding patients, it’s important to recharge. Taking time for myself, whether it’s experimenting with new makeup looks or simply unwinding with a good book, helps me maintain balance. It’s not just about the work; it’s about nurturing my own well-being so I can continue to give my best to my patients every single day. Being a dental hygienist is a rewarding blend of science, art, and genuine human connection, making every day truly unique.
