💗 - communication skills
if your shy like me and find it hard to initiate conversations this is a good job! you have to communicate with patients everytime you walk in the room, and not to mention relying information to the nurses. this definitely helped! also most patients talk and just want a listening ear and this can help with therapeutic communication.
💗 - gaining direct patient experience
when I first had my clinical and was thrown into cleaning patients up, i struggled a lot. but now that i have this job it comes easy to me now and I don’t think much about it. also many people think you won’t have to clean patients up as a nurse, which is false. the nurses I work with help clean patients and even do it themselves too.
💗 - practice skills
as a tech your allowed to do blood draws, remove ivs, (some places) insert and removes foleys, bladder scan patients, vitals and much more.
💗 - nurses explain a lot
the nurses in my building sometimes without even asking they explain stuff to me because they know im a student. I work on a cardiac pcu floor and nurses explain heart rhythms to me all the time and procedures involving the heart. I also ask a lot of questions and they have no problem explaining stuff to me!

I seen a lot of different diagnosis that I wouldn’t have seen in clinical
💗 - the money
I used to work at walmart two times a pay period and my check was only around $230. i live in ohio and make about $20.50 an hour. i am only required to work 24 hours a month anything after that is eligible for bonus pay. i can make pay and a half or double pay. working around four days I usually bring home around 800-1200 a check. this is great pay for students!

i will be graduating in may and my nursing manager has already offered me a job! definitely a great opportunity to build relations and establish connections.
💗 - build your own schedule
most nursing student techs/aides usually are PRN. this means you make your own schedule. most places make you work one weekend a month and a minimum of 12 hrs a month. and you can pick up whenever!
💗 - i work with 2 of my friends from nursing school and it makes the shifts go by smoother when we work together. i also made new friends here too!
