1. Connect don’t just interact!

Who you meet and network with is crucial. It’s true what they say about being the 5th of all the friends you keep— so be mindful of who and what you keep around you during the infant stages of your business journey! Even if they aren’t a business partner or customer, they very well could be someone that brings you every million dollar referral so never treat anyone you talk to like a simple transaction!

2. Track your numbers!

Flying blind and adjusting budgets as you go is a sure fire way to sabotage any and all business moves and investments you may need to make within a sensitive time frame in your businesses life span. Weekly, monthly and annual number tracking is going to save you not only time but MONEY in the process of trying to avoid rapid expansion that normally results in extra debt and inconsistent increase/decrease in budget.

3. Over plan + over prepare!

You can truly never be too prepared for anything because most of the time you’re never even actually prepared for what happens during any first experience. If you already drafted 50,000 business proposals and emergency procedures, you should draft plan b-z more! In any case one idea completely flunks you have a plethora of ideas, resources and tools to further maintain your business. This includes supplies, back up budgets for emergency budgets, banking concerns, the game plan when your market gets depleted and you have to start all over, ETC— keep yourself ready!

4. Stay in the loop!

Keep up with other business owners and entrepreneurs that you are inspired by and even local to you. Keeping up with trends, niches and what certain markets are interested in as seasons change will also help you stay relevant in this ever changing cycle of what’s hip and all the rave. While this is important for staying involved and up to date it also helps you avoid getting hashtag, cancelled too soon. Yes this also includes knowing what is going on with stocks and bond markets to ensure you are ready for any and all financial restraints your business could face.

5. DONT BE A PUSHOVER!

This is going to be hard to navigate at times, especially when learning how to manage serving others while doing what’s best for you and your business! Always remember you can do your best every day and someone will still find something to complain about; In this instance— stand your ground. Ultimately this is YOUR baby and you have all the say in how you run your business regardless of whether you are receiving negative feedback or just experiencing the typical growing pains of entrepreneurship. Just remember the core values of your business and stay true to them.

6. Have fun and make memories!

While it’s a serious and big task, running your business doesn’t have to be all angry brows and grimaces. It truly is a wonderful and exciting journey once you understand how to set yourself up for success! You will only get a first one time, so make sure you stay grounded and rooted in every lesson, mistake and WIN along the way. Owning your own business is like raising a baby in a way, you truly want to make sure that for the next 10+ years you can trust that all you did during your developmental stages will be a huge success and your business will thrive for decades to come!
